Working under the supervision of the Manager, International Student Services, and the International Student Engagement Coordinator, the Academic Skills Tutor will support and facilitate the development of international and permanent resident students’ academic skills, with a focus on the University of Regina’s core competencies, academic expectations, and the promotion of student wellbeing and academic success.

Tutors will provide academic skills support and guidance to students, with particular emphasis on the following targeted academic areas: Biology, Computer Science, English and Writing, Mathematics, and Statistics.

Duties for this position include:

- Assisting in the development of students’ general language skills, including listening, reading, writing, and speaking;
- Supporting students’ development of comprehension skills related to assignments, projects, readings, lectures, and other academic activities;
- Providing academic skills support in one or more of the targeted tutoring areas: Biology, Computer Science, English and Writing, Mathematics, and Statistics;
- Guiding students in understanding academic integrity and supporting the development of practices that align with institutional policies and expectations;
- Supporting the development of students’ time management and organizational skills;
- Advising students on best practices for communicating with University faculty and staff, including booking appointments, attending office hours, and professional email communication;
- Guiding students in accessing available campus support services and resources;
- Assisting with referrals to additional support services, as appropriate, in consultation with supervisors;




- Assisting in the preparation and delivery of group workshops and presentations that promote students’ understanding of academic expectations;

Providing support for research initiatives and other projects undertaken in collaboration with UR International.

Position Requirements

- Major in a relevant discipline is preferred.*
- Excellent intercultural communication skills.
- Exemplary written and oral presentation skills.
- Ability to assess student needs and clearly explain concepts, objectives, and subject content.
- Demonstrated competency in one or more of the targeted tutoring areas: Biology, Computer Science, English and Writing, Mathematics, and Statistics.
- Currently registered as a senior undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Regina.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Experience and/or expertise gained through studying, living, working, or volunteering abroad, or within culturally diverse communities, is considered an asset.
- Willingness to participate in training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities provided through the position.

*Please note: There are six vacancies available to support targeted academic disciplines. Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in English, Education, History, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Mathematics, Physics, or Statistics.
