About You

Mind Matters Counselling is a growing private practice in New Westminster, BC, providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused counselling to individuals, couples, children, teens, and families.

We are looking for an experienced Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) to join our team as a subcontractor.

This position is designed for a clinician who has developed a strong clinical identity and is looking to grow a sustainable private-practice caseload while maintaining clinical autonomy and flexibility.

We are particularly interested in clinicians with experience in trauma, EMDR, LGBTQ+ affirming counselling, and/or youth and young adult mental health.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a warm, experienced, and reflective clinician who is confident working independently and has a strong foundation in evidence-informed psychotherapy.

The ideal candidate has a particular interest or specialization in trauma and identity-related concerns and is comfortable supporting clients through complex life experiences, relationships, and transitions.

You may be a particularly strong fit if you have experience supporting:

- LGBTQ+ individuals and couples
- Gender identity and identity exploration
- Coming out and family dynamics
- Minority stress and internalized shame
- Gender-affirming mental health support
- Complex trauma & depression
- Emotional dysregulation
- Grief and loss
- Self-esteem and identity concerns
- Relationship and interpersonal concerns
- Life transitions

Experience working at the intersection of culture, family expectations, sexuality, gender, and mental health is especially valued.

Clinical Approaches

We are particularly interested in clinicians with training or experience in:

- EMDR
- DBT / DBT-informed therapy
- Trauma-focused therapy
- Attachment-based approaches
- Somatic or body-based approaches

EMDR Basic Training is strongly preferred.

DBT training or experience using DBT-informed interventions is considered a strong asset. LGBTQ+ & Gender-Affirming Practice

For this position, we are looking for someone who has genuine clinical experience working with LGBTQ+ clients and understands the importance of affirming, culturally responsive, and non-pathologizing care.

Experience supporting clients around:

- Sexual orientation
- Gender identity
- Coming out
- Family acceptance and rejection
- Gender transition
- Identity development
- Relationship concerns
- Internalized stigma or shame
- Cultural and religious conflicts
- Minority stress

would be considered a significant asset.

We are looking for clinicians who have specific experience and/or training in LGBTQ+ affirming care, rather than simply identifying as LGBTQ+ friendly.

Requirements

- Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related field
- Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with BCACC
- Minimum 1-2 years of post-registration clinical experience as an RCC
- Professional liability insurance
- Experience managing an independent clinical caseload
- Strong clinical experience with adolescents, young adults, and/or adults
- Trauma-informed clinical practice
- Strong ethical and professional standards
- Excellent clinical documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while participating in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to provide virtual and/or in-person counselling
- Availability to work at least one weekend day

Strong Assets

The following would make a candidate particularly competitive:

- Completed EMDR Basic Training
- Advanced trauma training
- DBT training
- Experience working with LGBTQ+ and gender-diverse clients
- Experience working with adolescents and young adults
- Experience with complex trauma or PTSD
- Experience with dissociation or attachment trauma
- Experience working with BIPOC or culturally diverse populations
- Ability to provide counselling in an additional language
- Experience working with neurodivergent clients
- Group therapy or workshop facilitation experience
