Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and motivated Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to join our collaborative clinical team in Calgary, Alberta.

Working under the direction and supervision of a registered Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA will support the delivery of individualized speech, language, communication, and related therapy services to pediatric and/or adult clients.

The SLPA will work as part of a client-centered team and will receive appropriate clinical direction and supervision from an SLP in accordance with applicable Alberta standards and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver speech and language therapy activities and interventions as assigned and supervised by the SLP.
- Implement individualized treatment activities targeting articulation, phonology, receptive and expressive language, vocabulary, social communication, fluency, and other communication goals as directed.
- Support clients in developing functional communication skills through engaging, age-appropriate, and evidence-based activities.
- Follow treatment plans and clinical recommendations established by the supervising SLP.
- Collect and document relevant data during therapy sessions to support monitoring of client progress.
- Communicate observations and client progress to the supervising SLP in a timely and professional manner.




- Assist the SLP with preparation and organization of therapy materials and activities.
- Provide caregivers, families, and educators with strategies and activities as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organizational policies and applicable professional requirements.
- Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and collaborative planning as appropriate.
- Maintain professional boundaries and follow privacy, confidentiality, safety, and infection-control procedures.
- Seek guidance from the supervising SLP whenever clarification or additional clinical direction is required.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development relevant to the role.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Diploma, degree, or relevant educational background in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with children and/or adults with communication needs is an asset.
- Knowledge of speech, language, communication, and developmental disorders.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to follow clinical direction and implement treatment plans consistently.
- Comfortable working independently while functioning as part of a collaborative clinical team.
- Compassionate, patient, dependable, and professional approach.




- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable, insured vehicle, if travel between client locations is required.

Supervision & Scope of Practice

The SLPA will work under the direction and supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

The SLPA will perform only those activities that are appropriately assigned and supervised by the SLP and will not independently diagnose, assess, or establish treatment plans for clients.

The supervising SLP will provide clinical direction and supervision appropriate to the SLPA's training, competence, assigned responsibilities, and the needs of the clients. ACSLPA's standards recognize support personnel as individuals who perform activities assigned and supervised by an ACSLPA-registered SLP or audiologist.
