Occupational Therapist - CALGARY

Overview

Are you an Occupational Therapist passionate about helping people overcome barriers and achieve meaningful employment? Join our Work It Forward team, where OTs serve as clinical leads guiding individuals with disabilities and complex challenges through a structured pathway toward sustainable work.

As the clinical anchor of the program, you’ll conduct functional and vocational assessments, design simulated work environments, and collaborate with Case Managers, Job Developers, and community partners to create tailored employment pathways. Your expertise will directly shape client success, from initial intake to job placement and post-employment support.

Responsibilities

- Conduct comprehensive functional and vocational assessments using evidence-based tools (e.g., WRI, MOHOST, DOA).
- Co-develop individualized action plans that reflect client goals, strengths, and support needs.
- Lead and supervise simulated workstations across sectors such as administration, retail, and production.
- Monitor and document client performance, adapting activities in real time to optimize success.
- Prepare clients for work trials, evaluating readiness and supporting transitions into real workplace settings.
- Provide recommendations on accommodations, ergonomics, and workplace integration strategies.
- Support job placement and retention through employer collaboration, workplace visits, and follow-up assessments.
- Actively contribute to interdisciplinary case conferences and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

- Education & Certification:



Bachelor’s or Master’s in Occupational Therapy; current registration and good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists.
- Experience: At least 2 years in clinical practice, vocational rehabilitation, or disability-focused services.
- Skills: Strong background in functional assessments, trauma-informed practice, disability accommodation, and return-to-work planning.
- Tools & Knowledge: Familiarity with WRI, MOHOST, DOA, and AWP assessment tools.
- Collaboration: Ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary team, bringing clinical insight to shared service planning.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills and a client-centered, strengths-based approach.

Preferred:

- Experience in supported employment or multidisciplinary employment services.
- Knowledge of inclusive employer engagement and Alberta’s labour market.
- Group facilitation experience in topics such as ergonomics, workplace wellness, or stress management.
- Training in Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, or cultural safety.
