EMPLOYMENT CHANCE

Position Title: Vocational Counsellor

Program /Team: LifeStreams

Hours of Work: Permanent, Full-Time – 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: $29.22 per hour – Grid 11, Step 1

Location: Various Locations, Victoria

The Learning and Employment Team is committed to helping individuals find purpose and fulfillment through a variety of programs, including ArtWorks, Employment Services, Personalized Support Initiative (PSI), OPTIONS, and Lifestreams Learning, all designed to support learning, social development, and personalized assistance for maximizing independence and inclusion.

About the Program - LifeStreams Learning

LifeStreams Learning is an innovative program at the Garth Homer Society that provides individually tailored learning strategies, social development, and job placement opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. The LifeStreams Learning Vocational Counsellor will support individuals to identify, pursue, and achieve their goals. They will also contribute to the ongoing development and vision of LifeStreams Learning as a unique and dynamic learning program.

Required qualifications includes the following:

- A diploma in a related human/social service field or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- One year recent experience in the provision of vocational/employment skill development for adults with DD
- Experience and knowledge in the area of behaviour management and/or Crisis Intervention including Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training




- One-year of experience working with individuals with a diagnoses of ASD, FASD, including knowledge of relevant legislation, community resources, and best practices.
- One-year experience supporting individuals with Developmental Disabilities

Other Skills and Abilities:

The successful candidate has demonstrated a working knowledge of supports specific to individuals with developmental disabilities and possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills, enabling them to establish positive rapport with all stakeholders. They have shown the ability to provide non-aversive behaviour management support and have a working knowledge of, or training in, current trends and best practices related to community-based employment. They are skilled in assessing and teaching using adaptive methods with the goal of employment or volunteer placement, and they work effectively with employers and community stakeholders. Additionally, they have strong time and general management skills, demonstrate teamwork, possess strong written communication skills, particularly in reporting, and are computer literate.
