Job Overview

A client of mine that is a full-scale design, build, and production operation based near Windsor, ON with over 35 years of experience in the automotive manufacturing industry.

The Junior Tool and Die Designer is responsible for the preparation and approval of engineering designs, drawings and related technical information, under the guidance of the engineer manager or senior designer.

Responsibilities

- Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specifications sheets or other data.
- Interpret die layouts and die designs and translate design intent into required manufacturing process to complete a lineup of automotive stamping tools.
- Create/modify surfaces to accommodate spring back and surface changes by using morphing tools on CAD systems.
- Determine machining process and define areas of dies to be machined.
- Troubleshoot design/material issues
- Work with the Project Managers throughout build to improve design and apply the improvements to subsequent projects.
- Occasional Customer interaction regarding design reviews and follow up
- Provide technical support to Machining, Fitting,



and Engineering Departments throughout the die manufacturing process.
- Maintain documentation record of complete die design.
- Responsible for the design of Tool & Die systems using Keycreator or similar systems.
- Support the creation, modification, and maintenance of CAD files and related databases for generation of drawings, plots and files for external sources.
- Aid in the continuous improvement and implementation of ShopEdge ERP system
- Perform any other duties, as required

Requirements

- Engineering Diploma or Degree, preferably with a specialization in design and drafting, from a recognized Community College, University or equivalent experience
- Minimum 1-3 years tool design experience in the automotive industry
- Direct experience and demonstrated capabilities in concepting, 3D designing and 2D detailing for customized special purpose machinery, tooling and or dies.
- Experience using CAD software – Keycreator, Solid Works and Solid Edge, Visi, UG
- Experience in metal stamping is a solid asset
- Previous experience with an ERP system is an asset

Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
