PTL Group is a Calgary-based utility construction contractor specializing in hydrovac excavation and Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) for underground utility infrastructure. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Hydrovac Operator to join our team.

What You'll Do

- Safely operate a hydrovac for daylighting, potholing, slot trenching and excavation around underground utilities
- Support utility construction involving telecommunications, power, gas, water and other underground infrastructure
- Establish and maintain safe excavation areas around buried facilities
- Complete daily inspections and required safety documentation
- Identify and report mechanical or safety concerns
- Follow company safety procedures, Ground Disturbance requirements and client-specific requirements
- Assist with site setup, traffic control and other field duties as required
- Maintain safe, clean and organized work sites

What You Bring

- Minimum 1 year of hydrovac operating experience in utility construction
- Valid Class 3 Alberta driver's licence with air brakes endorsement; Class 1 is an asset
- Clean driver's abstract with no major convictions




- Experience working around underground utility infrastructure
- Strong understanding of safe excavation, utility exposure and Ground Disturbance practices
- Ability to interpret utility locate markings and site drawings
- Strong communication skills and a reliable, safety-conscious work ethic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew
- Able to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions

Required Certifications

CSTS 2020 · WHMIS · Ground Disturbance Level II

First Aid & CPR, H2S Alive, Confined Space, Equipotential Grounding & Bonding and Fall Protection are considered assets.

Schedule & Compensation

$35.00–$43.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications, plus an additional hourly premium when operating the hydrovac solo without a swamper.

Full-time, permanent position. Day, night, overtime, on-call and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project needs.

Travel to project sites throughout Alberta may also be required.
