About Sanguen Health Centre

Sanguen Health Centre exists to improve individual and community well-being by providing health and social care for people who face barriers to accessing traditional supports. This includes people living with Hep C, people who use drugs, those experiencing homelessness and equity deserving communities.

Our mission is to meet the needs of those in Waterloo Region and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph living with or at risk of Hepatitis C through the provision of education, outreach, support, and comprehensive, expert medical care.

Position Summary

Sanguen Health Centre, in collaboration with Traverse Independence, has opened a Drop In Space and Clinical Hub, and we’re looking for two (2) part-time team members to join our team. Our Drop in is located at 130 Victoria St. South (off of Bramm St.).

The Drop in space provides a welcoming and stigma free space for people who use drugs (PWUD) to access basic needs items, snacks, washrooms, clothing and seasonal items as well as a space to sit and chill.Our space is also used to host our Drug Checking Program, Needle Syringe Program (NSP) and offers group activities, games, crafts, and one of our volunteer kit-making groups! We also offer social support and help navigating the Healthcare system.

The Drop In space does provide meals, or space for drug consumption.

Responsibilities include:

- Creating a friendly and welcoming, stigma-free space for people in the community and PWUD
- Engage with program participants
- Connect people to the services and resources they need, both at Sanguen and in the community/Region
- Support inventory and supplies ordering activities
- Share information on harm reduction practices, including providing harm reduction supplies and information, including naloxone training




- Support Sanguen policies to ensure as age place for clients and staff
- Participate in training and ongoing learning opportunities
- Attend team and staff meetings, as required
- Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Experience or a strong interest in outreach with the population Sanguen serves (e.g. people experiencing homelessness, people who use drugs)
- Lived experience related to substance use and/or homelessness is considered an asset but not a requirement for this position.
- Understanding, and experience, with issues that may impact on people who use drugs (including mental health, lack of housing, poverty, trauma, etc.)
- The ability to be reliable and punctual
- Good communication skills with coworkers and community
- Understanding of anti-racism, anti-oppression, and cultural safety, and be able to apply these concepts to ensure all clients accessing the space feel welcomed and safe
- Knowledge of some community resources especially those useful to, and accessed by, people who use drugs
- Must be comfortable being around, discussing and working with people who use or have used drugs and compassionate about the barriers faced by people who use drugs.
- Must be willing to continuously learn from the experts (people who use drugs).
- The ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
- The ability to work evenings and/or weekends
- Basic computer skills for data entry and client registration

In addition,



this position requires:

- A vulnerable sector check
- Have emergency first aid (or equivalent) and BLS (Health Care Provider level preferred), or willingness to complete this training

Hours and Location of Work

This role will be scheduled up to 20 hours per week. The location of work is 130 Victoria St. South, in Kitchener. Hours will be scheduled during the week, and on weekends.

Compensation

The compensation for this role will range from $22.00-$25.00/hour, depending on experience and qualifications, and will include 4% vacation pay. You will have access to our company-paid EAP program.
