Secwepemc Child and Family Services Agency (SCFSA) is a progressive and

culturally focused agency supporting family safety that endeavors to

provide outstanding practice to First Nations families residing in the

communities of the seven‐ member bands; Adams Lake, Bonaparte,

Neskonlith, Skeetchestn, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, Simpcw, and

Whispering Pines/Clinton and who reside in Kamloops and the surrounding

areas up to and including Chase, Logan Lake and Savona.

Striving to provide exceptional family healing services through prevention-

based practice, SCFSA incorporates a Signs of Safety® framework as an

innovative, strengths-based, and safety-organized approach to child protection

Working within a generalized case load model, the Caseworker’s goal at Secwépemc Child and Family Services Agency (SCFSA) is to ensure the safety and well being of children while helping to preserve the family unit, providing preventative support and maintenance programs to preserve families where possible.

Using Signs of Safety as an approach to care, the Caseworker assesses client care and risk to children, creates and implements casework plans, provides services which foster the family unit, makes referrals for other community resources, assesses and monitors temporary and permanent placements for children, participates in dispute resolution opportunities, and maintains case records, in accordance with the Child, Family and Community Service Act, the Adoptions Act, and the Family Relations Act.

The Caseworker develops positive working relationships with community groups, agencies, and societies while providing public education at the community level.

The Family Preservation Caseworker supports Indigenous children and families through culturally grounded trauma informed practice that honours traditions, values and community connections. This role requires active engagement with Indigenous cultures,



including participation in cultural practices and community events as appropriate and working in partnership with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and families to support holistic well-being. The worker must demonstrate cultural humility and respect for Indigenous culture and a commitment to ongoing learning and reflection related to the impacts of colonization including intergenerational trauma and systemic inequities.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree, plus basic training; or

- Bachelor of Arts degree or a degree in a related human services field,

plus delegation training; or

- Master of Social Work or a Masters degree in a related human services field,

plus delegation training; or

- Recognized two year diploma in the human services field, plus 3 years

of experience in child and family services and delegation training

Skills and Abilities:

- Knowledge of Secwepemc governance, culture, language and traditions are an asset

- Ability to interpret and apply Provincial legislation, Agency policy and practice standards with confidence and professionalism

- Proven ability to work independently, while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships while using integrated case management techniques and the ability to prioritize and switch gears when called for

- Critical thinker that is creative and resourceful with families in during difficult times

- Displays empathy and caring and works alongside families to achieve their goals

- Knowledge of all areas of child development, and the origin and effects of child abuse and neglect in the First Nations community

- Knowledge of Signs of Safety or Solution Focused Brief Therapy Techniques will be considered an asset





Positive facilitation skills and ability to effectively use standard computer applications

Working Conditions

· Travel in this position is required (To: client’s residences, court, communities, foster care homes, and other locations as necessary)

· This work involves families in personal crisis which may require you to lift children and to de-escalate emotional people

· A self-care plan will be a must

· Regular supervision and consultation are required

Hours of work are nonstandard and connected to services and community needs

Conditions of Employment

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Record Check
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work

Pay Grade

- Starting wage $41.6934
