Summit Electric is currently seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join our team at the Artemis Blackwater Gold Mine Project in Northern BC.

The Safety Officer will support Summit Electric's site operations by promoting a strong safety culture, monitoring compliance with company and project safety requirements, identifying and addressing hazards, and working closely with supervision and field personnel to maintain a safe and productive work environment.

Responsibilities

- Providing regular updates to the Safety Manager regarding site activities, hazards, incidents, corrective actions, and emerging safety concerns
- Assisting the Safety Manager with the implementation and continuous improvement of site-specific safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Promoting and supporting a proactive, positive safety culture across the project
- Conducting regular field inspections, observations, and workplace audits
- Identifying hazards and working with supervisors and employees to implement appropriate corrective actions
- Monitoring compliance with Summit Electric policies, project requirements, safe work procedures, and applicable occupational health and safety regulations




- Participating in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-job planning activities
- Reviewing Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), and other safety documentation
- Assisting with incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, including documentation, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action follow-up
- Maintaining accurate safety records, inspection reports, incident documentation, and other required project records
- Monitoring the proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with site safety requirements
- Providing coaching and guidance to employees and supervisors regarding safe work practices
- Supporting new-hire and site safety orientations as required
- Participating in emergency response planning and drills
- Monitoring high-risk activities and ensuring appropriate controls and permits are in place
- Working collaboratively with the Safety Manager, project management, supervision, employees, clients, and other contractors to address safety concerns
- Immediately reporting and escalating serious hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions to the Safety Manager and appropriate project leadership
- Performing other safety-related duties as required to support the Safety Manager and project operations

Qualifications

- Proven experience in construction or related fields with a strong understanding of construction site operations.
- Familiarity with construction management software for tracking safety activities and documentation.




- Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations or relevant local safety laws.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively train teams and report findings clearly.
- Ability to identify hazards quickly and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Solid organizational skills to manage multiple safety tasks simultaneously.
- Certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory.

Physical & Work Requirements

The ideal candidate will:

- Be physically fit and able to work in an active industrial construction environment
- Be comfortable walking and standing for extended periods
- Be able to access work areas involving stairs, elevated platforms, uneven terrain, and active construction zones
- Be willing and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Be comfortable working in a remote mine-site environment
- Demonstrate robust situational awareness and attention to detail
- Be confident addressing unsafe behaviours and conditions in a professional and constructive manner
- Be reliable, punctual, organized, and capable of managing competing priorities
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace health and safety

Pre-Employment Requirements

Successful candidates must be able to pass:

- Drug and alcohol screening
- Fitness-for-work medical assessment
- Any additional site-access requirements established by the project or client.
