We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join a contract opportunity based in Toronto, Ontario. In this role, you will deliver meaningful financial insight, support reporting activities across multiple entities, and help management make informed business decisions. This position is ideal for a finance specialist who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with sharp analytical skills and a hands-on approach to financial reporting and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and compile monthly financial reporting materials to support leadership reviews and required regulatory submissions.
- Prepare annual financial statements, including supporting note disclosures, with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.
- Analyze large sets of financial data to identify trends, explain variances, and build a clear picture of business performance.
- Create dashboards and financial analyses that provide management with practical insight into results and emerging issues.
- Monitor changes in accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements and assess their impact on reporting and compliance obligations.
- Conduct industry and market analysis and summarize relevant findings for internal stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Support budgeting, planning, and forecasting activities by gathering data, validating assumptions, and preparing supporting schedules.
- Coordinate with external auditors by organizing documentation, responding to inquiries, and assisting with audit-related deliverables.
- Maintain finance documentation, including accounting policies, procedures, and supplementary schedules, while supporting ongoing process improvements.
- Contribute to month-end activities, ad hoc financial projects, and other accounting support tasks as required by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with a recognized Canadian accounting designation.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting or financial analysis experience, ideally including an audit foundation.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret financial results, evaluate statistical information, and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
- Strong experience with core accounting activities such as general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence in preparing reports or presentations for business audiences.
- Familiarity with enterprise financial systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP.
- Background in financial services is preferred, with insurance industry exposure considered a strong asset, including commercial or health insurance environments.
