Automotive Service Advisor — Career Path to Service Manager / General Manager
This Isn't Just Another Service Advisor Position
Sandy Lane Auto West is growing, and we're looking for more than an experienced Service Advisor.
We're looking for future leaders.
We want to build our leadership bench with driven people who want to develop their careers, take on more responsibility, and potentially progress from Service Advisor → Service Manager → General Manager as our company continues to grow.
If you're a strong automotive Service Advisor who enjoys working with customers, understands the business side of a repair shop, and wants an opportunity to develop into leadership, we'd like to meet you.
Who We Are
Sandy Lane Auto West is an independent automotive service facility specializing in European vehicles and premium automotive care.
Our vision is to become Edmonton's premier destination for precision European automotive service.
We're building a company around long-term relationships, integrity, teamwork, continuous improvement, professional growth, and an exceptional client experience.
Just as importantly, we're building a workplace where talented people can build careers.
The Opportunity
You'll begin in a Service Advisor role, learning our clients, systems, standards, team, and approach to running a successful automotive service business.
For the right person, the opportunity doesn't have to stop there.
We want to identify and develop people who can eventually take responsibility for areas such as:
- Coaching and developing other Service Advisors
- Managing workflow and shop production
- Improving sales and operational performance
- Building strong client relationships
- Leading meetings and holding the team accountable
- Tracking and improving KPIs
- Helping recruit and develop team members
- Improving processes and systems
- Managing the overall client experience
- Taking increasing responsibility for the performance of the business
Our goal is to develop leaders internally whenever possible. If your career goal is eventually to run a service department—or potentially an entire location—we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do as a Service Advisor
You'll be responsible for creating an exceptional experience for our clients while helping our technicians and the rest of the team operate efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include
- Building long-term relationships with clients
- Listening carefully to client concerns and accurately documenting them
- Creating and presenting repair and maintenance estimates
- Reviewing Digital Vehicle Inspections and technician recommendations
- Clearly explaining repairs without unnecessary technical jargon
- Obtaining and documenting client authorization
- Keeping clients informed throughout the repair process
- Coordinating with technicians and parts to keep work moving
- Managing expectations regarding timing, pricing, and vehicle completion
- Reviewing completed work and invoices with clients
- Following up on declined and future maintenance recommendations
- Maintaining accurate repair-order documentation
- Contributing to shop sales, productivity, and client-retention goals
- Helping create a professional, positive, accountable team environment
Who We're Looking For We're especially interested in someone who thinks beyond the immediate transaction.
You understand that a great Service Advisor isn't simply selling repairs—they're building trust between the client, technician, and business.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Have automotive Service Advisor experience
- Communicate confidently and professionally
- Enjoy working with people and building relationships
- Can explain technical information in a way clients understand
- Are organized and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Take ownership rather than waiting for someone else to solve problems
- Are comfortable being held accountable to measurable results
- Want feedback and coaching
- Enjoy learning and improving
- Work well as part of a team
- Have an interest in leadership and business management
- Want a career, not simply another job
European automotive experience is an asset, but attitude, leadership potential, communication ability, and willingness to learn are extremely key to us. What Leadership Potential Means to Us
You don't need to already be a Service Manager.
We're looking for someone who demonstrates the behaviours that can eventually make a great one.
That means being someone who:
Takes Ownership
When there's a problem, you help solve it.
Builds Relationships
You understand that long-term trust is more valuable than a short-term sale.
Communicates
You keep clients and teammates informed and address difficult conversations professionally.
Is Accountable
You know your numbers, commitments, and responsibilities.
Develops Others
You enjoy helping teammates improve and succeed.
Wants to Learn the Business
You're interested in understanding not only service advising, but also workflow, productivity, profitability, staffing, leadership, and the overall operation.
Continues to Elevate
You're never finished learning and improving.
General Manager
Progression isn't automatic or based simply on time in the position. It will be earned through performance, leadership ability, development, and readiness for increased responsibility.
But the opportunity is real.
As Sandy Lane Auto West grows, we want to have our next generation of leaders already developing inside the company.
Why Sandy Lane Auto West?
Because we want ambitious people to have somewhere to go.
We're building a company where strong performers can take on greater responsibility instead of eventually having to leave to find their next chance.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Work with a professional team specializing in European vehicles
- Build relationships with a premium client base
- Develop your automotive and business knowledge
- Receive coaching and feedback
- Learn how a high-performing independent repair facility operates
- Take on additional leadership responsibility as you demonstrate readiness
- Build toward future management opportunities
- Be part of a growing company where your contribution can have a meaningful impact
We believe work should also be enjoyable. We want people who take their responsibilities seriously without taking themselves too seriously, who celebrate wins, support their teammates, and enjoy being part of a successful team. Ready for Your Next Step?
If you're looking for another Service Advisor job, there are plenty of them.
If you're looking for an opportunity to build your career, develop as a leader, and potentially help run an automotive business in the future, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply with your resume and tell us briefly:
Where do you want your automotive career to be in the next 3–5 years?
