What You'll Do
As a Baker / Cook, you'll work across multiple kitchen stations while maintaining the highest standards of quality, consistency, food safety, and operational excellence.
Your responsibilities include:
- Participate in daily bread, pastry, and bakery production.
- Prepare ingredients for cooking and baking, including portioning, chopping, weighing, measuring, mixing, and proper storage.
- Wash and prepare fresh fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients.
- Prepare, bake, and cook menu items according to recipes, presentation standards, and production schedules.
- Operate kitchen equipment including ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, and other production equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor food quality throughout preparation and ensure products meet OLIVĒTTE's standards.
- Test products to ensure proper cooking, baking, and consistency.
- Set up and maintain clean, organized workstations before, during, and after service.
- Plate and portion food according to established presentation standards.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen work areas, tools, equipment, and utensils.
- Monitor equipment and food temperatures while maintaining accurate logs.
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness.
- Ensure consistent quality across retail bakery items, display products, and café menu offerings.
- Maintain proper organization, labeling, rotation, and storage of all ingredients and finished products.
- Assist in reducing waste while supporting sustainable kitchen practices.
- Support fellow team members and contribute to a positive, collaborative kitchen culture.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is passionate about food, enjoys working with their hands, and is committed to delivering exceptional quality every day.
Education & Experience
You have either
- A Culinary or Pastry diploma/degree (minimum two years) plus at least 1 year of experience in a bakery, café, or similar food service environment,
OR
- At least 3 years of experience working in a high-volume bakery, café, or restaurant.
Preferred Qualifications
- Canadian Red Seal Cook, Baker, or Pastry certification (or international equivalent).
- Experience working in scratch kitchens or artisan bakeries.
- Familiarity with bread production, pastry preparation, or café operations.
Skills & Qualifications The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and consistency.
- Thrive in fast-paced, early morning production environments.
- Have a solid work ethic with a positive, team-first attitude.
- Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Be eager to learn artisan baking and modern culinary techniques.
- Be able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Hold a valid Food Handler Certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a warm, fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Available to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
