Company Description Warden Woods Community Centre is a community-based organization in southwest Scarborough that grew from a local Mennonite Church response to the needs of residents in a government housing project. Established in the 1960s in an area with limited recreational facilities and public amenities, the Centre has a long history of partnering with residents to provide essential programs and services. Over time, it developed cutting-edge collaborative initiatives with agencies such as Family Services Association, Children’s Aid Society, and the Public Health Department.

Since 1970, the Centre at 74 Fir Valley Court has expanded its services to include crisis intervention, support programs, and community development. Today, Warden Woods continues to serve diverse individuals and families, focusing on inclusion, support, and meaningful engagement.

Role Description The Board Member role is a volunteer position, supporting the governance and strategic direction of Warden Woods Community Centre.

Board

Members participate in regular board and committee meetings, review organizational performance, and contribute to policy development and strategic planning. They provide oversight on financial stewardship, risk management, and compliance with applicable regulations and organizational bylaws.

Members act as ambassadors for the Centre, building relationships with community stakeholders, supporting fundraising and advocacy efforts,



and promoting the mission and values of the organization. This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, ON, with in-person meetings and activities at the Centre and some work that can be done from home. Qualifications

Must live within Greater Toronto Area.

For this hiring campaign we are specifically looking for candidates with experience in HR.

Experience in governance and leadership, including board service, strategic planning, or organizational oversight.

Skills in financial literacy and risk management, such as budgeting, reviewing financial statements, or understanding nonprofit funding models.

Background in community services, social work, public health, or related fields, with an understanding of equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to listen actively, contribute constructively in group discussions, and build consensus.

Experience in fundraising, donor relations, partnership development, or advocacy within community or nonprofit environments.

Ability to commit the time required for regular meetings, preparation, and occasional community events, with reliability in a hybrid (in-person and remote) setting.

Knowledge of the Toronto and Scarborough community context and the needs of diverse populations is an asset.

Prior board or committee experience in the nonprofit sector is beneficial but not mandatory; lived experience in the community is highly valued.
