This is a full-time, permanent position and requires full availability within our store’s operating hours.

Our store hours are

· Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

· Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

· Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The Cashier role at Selkirk Home Hardware Building Centre plays a key role in ensuring a positive customer experience as the cashier is often the first employee customers see when they enter the store and the last employee they see before they leave. The cashier performs Customer Service duties and provides all point-of-sale functions including recording and collecting for customer purchases, processing transactions using retail software, keeping accurate records of all cash, in-house charge accounts, and credit card transactions (debit, gift card etc.). The cashier performs all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.

Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behaviour to management in order to have the situation corrected.
- Greet customers within thirty seconds of entering the store and communicate in a welcoming and professional manner.
- Operate all point-of-sale equipment,



including the cash register, with sufficient speed and accuracy.
- Perform Customer Service duties at the tills and at the Customer Service Desk; adhere to store policy and best practices when attending to customers and performing returns and refunds
- Ensure customers have had a positive shopping experience; take steps to rectify if they haven’t.
- Maintain price information (flyers, in-store promotions, etc.) for reference when customer price inquiries arise.
- Maintain the check-out area and merchandise displays.
- Assist customers who need advice, information, or directions.
- Communicate with other departments as needed for returns, product inquiries, and customer inquiries.

Requirements:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to comprehend written and printed materials, as well as information presented in numerical form.
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in retail, trades, or lumber industry is considered an asset.
