Role Description The Chemical Engineer will work on-site in Vancouver, BC on a contract basis, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support the research and development of autonomous systems for extreme environments. The role will focus on chemical research and experimentation related to explosives chemistry, energetic materials, reactive materials, and other chemical systems relevant to OREX technologies. Day-to-day responsibilities may include conducting laboratory experiments and testing, characterizing materials, analyzing experimental data, and developing or evaluating chemical processes and methodologies.

The Chemical

Engineer will contribute to translating laboratory research into practical engineering applications, preparing technical documentation, and supporting risk assessments and safety protocols associated with chemical materials used in high-risk environments. The role will also involve close coordination with engineering, robotics, and operations teams to integrate chemical research and technologies into larger autonomous systems. OREX is looking for a result-oriented,



ambitious individual who is comfortable working in a fast-moving research and development environment.

Qualifications

Current or graduated Master’s or PhD studies in explosives chemistry, energetic materials, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field, or a minimum of 3 years of directly relevant professional or research experience.

Strong background in explosives chemistry, energetic materials, reactive materials, or other closely related chemical fields.

Strong laboratory skills with hands-on experience in chemical experimentation, testing, instrumentation, material characterization, and safety procedures.

Strong analytical skills, including data analysis, problem solving, and critical thinking applied to complex engineering and research challenges.

Experience designing, evaluating, and optimizing chemical processes and experimental methodologies.

Ability to translate laboratory research and experimental findings into practical engineering applications.

Effective communication skills for preparing technical reports, documenting experimental findings, and collaborating with multidisciplinary technical teams.

Familiarity with robotics, autonomous systems, defense-related technologies, or extreme-environment applications is an asset.

Proficiency with engineering, simulation, scientific computing, or data analysis software is beneficial.

Demonstrated commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, responsible research, and ethical engineering practices.

Must be a Canadian citizen and have the ability to obtain the required security clearance.

Must be able to work in office in Vancouver, BC.

Result-oriented, ambitious, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D; workplace.

This is a contract-based position.

Expected compensation: $90–$110/hour, depending on qualifications and relevant experience.
