Position Summary The Chair of the Computer Science Department serves as the academic and administrative leader of the department and is responsible for its effective operation, strategic direction, and continued excellence in teaching, research,

scholarship, and service. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students,

and School leadership, the Chair advances the mission and strategic priorities of the Computer Science Department and the Ritchie School of Engineering and

Computer Science (RSECS). The Chair is a member of the RSECS Leadership Team and contributes to school-wide planning, resource stewardship, policy development, and initiatives that support the success of all RSECS students, faculty, and staff.

Appointment

Expectations Administrative effort: Approximately 50% appointment Teaching load: Four courses per academic year (or as otherwise assigned by the Dean) Additional Salary/Stipend: $30,000 Essential Functions Academic Leadership Provide vision and strategic leadership for the Computer Science Department.

Foster excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, and service.

Lead departmental strategic planning and assessment efforts.

Promote innovation in curriculum and academic programming.

Ensure compliance with university policies and accreditation requirements.

Faculty

Leadership Supervise and support department faculty.

Conduct annual evaluations and performance reviews.

Mentor faculty regarding promotion, tenure, career development, and professional growth.

Coordinate faculty workload assignments and teaching schedules.

Lead faculty recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.

Facilitate department meetings and shared governance processes.

Staff

Leadership Supervise departmental staff.

Establish priorities and ensure effective administrative operations.

Support professional development and performance management.

Student

Success Promote an outstanding educational experience for undergraduate and graduate students.

Address student concerns requiring departmental leadership.

Support student recruitment, retention, advising, and career preparation.

Foster an inclusive and welcoming learning environment. Budget and Resource Management Manage departmental budgets and financial resources.

Oversee allocation of faculty, staff, laboratory, and instructional resources.

Ensure responsible stewardship of department facilities and equipment.





Collaborate with the Dean regarding budget planning and resource needs. Curriculum and Program Quality Oversee curriculum development and continuous improvement.

Ensure program quality and academic rigor.

Coordinate assessment activities and program reviews.

Support new academic initiatives aligned with strategic priorities.

School

Leadership Serve as a member of the RSECS Leadership Team.

Collaborate with other department chairs and school leadership.

Represent the department in university committees and initiatives.

Advance school-wide goals and foster collaboration across departments.

Required Qualifications Current faculty member in good standing in the Department of Computer Science Working Environment Standard office environment.

Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.

Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical

Activities Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.

- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus. Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m.
