Brave Waves Swim School is looking for experienced and enthusiastic Lifesaving and National Lifeguard Instructors to join our roster of contract leadership instructors!
Our leadership courses, including Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and National Lifeguard, are typically offered once per season. We are looking to build a roster of qualified instructors who we can contact on a course-by-course basis, depending on certification, availability, and the course being offered.
This is a great opportunity for experienced instructors who love teaching lifesaving and lifeguarding skills but are looking for the flexibility of occasional contract work rather than a regular weekly schedule.
Courses are offered at our aquatic facilities in Paris, Ontario, including our year-round indoor pool and seasonal outdoor pool.
What You'll Do
As a contract leadership instructor, you'll be responsible for providing a high-quality, engaging, and supportive learning experience for your candidates.
Responsibilities include
- Teaching Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and/or National Lifeguard courses according to current Lifesaving Society curriculum and standards.
- Providing engaging instruction in water safety, rescue skills, first aid, CPR, and lifeguarding techniques.
- Demonstrating lifesaving and lifeguarding skills clearly and confidently.
- Assessing candidate progress and providing constructive feedback throughout the course.
- Completing required evaluations and course documentation.
- Creating a positive and supportive environment where candidates can learn, challenge themselves, and build confidence.
- Maintaining a safe learning environment and following all Brave Waves and Lifesaving Society safety procedures.
What We're Looking For
- Current Lifesaving Instructor certification through the Lifesaving Society to teach Bronze-level courses.
- Current National Lifeguard Instructor certification through the Lifesaving Society to teach National Lifeguard courses.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification as required by the Lifesaving Society.
- Previous experience teaching Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and/or National Lifeguard is preferred.
- Previous aquatic employment and leadership experience is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A confident, encouraging, and professional teaching style.
- References from previous aquatic employers are preferred.
How Contract Teaching Works This is not a regularly scheduled weekly position. Instead, Brave Waves offers leadership courses throughout the year, typically once per season.
When a course is scheduled, qualified instructors on our roster will be contacted with the course, dates, schedule, location, and compensation. Instructors can then accept opportunities based on their availability.
Our goal is to build an ongoing group of trusted leadership instructors who enjoy working with Brave Waves and who we can continue to reach out to as current courses are scheduled.
