The people we Support: We serve a remarkable community of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Since founding in 1987 as part of the Welcome Home program, we have been dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual disabilities as they transition from institutional settings to vibrant community living. We provide 24-hour support to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, FASD, Mental Health challenges, problematic substance use, and behavioural and sensory challenges, ensuring each person receives the care, respect, and opportunities they deserve.

Direct Support Worker: We seek compassionate individuals to provide essential care and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.





Responsibilities include

Providing personal care and support (e.g., hygiene assistance, dressing, toileting, mobility support)

Attending and advocating at medical appointments

Managing medication regimens (following proper protocols and documentation)

Grocery shopping and meal planning

Meal preparation & cooking (considering dietary needs and preferences)

Cleaning & maintaining the home (household upkeep, laundry, organizing)

Providing emotional support and companionship

Supporting individuals in recreational and community engagement activities

Building robust, professional relationships with those you support

Crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation when needed

Maintaining clear and accurate documentation (incident reports, communication logs, daily notes)

Promoting independence while ensuring safety and well-being

Encouraging life skills development (e.g., cooking, cleaning, self-care, social skills)

Maintaining professional boundaries while fostering trust and support Qualifications:

High School Diploma.

1-2 years of full-time experience working with adults with an intellectual disability.

Some post-secondary courses in the social services fields (Community Support Work, Mental Health courses)

Valid Driver's License is an asset

Specific training in the support work field (NVCI,ASIST, Mental Health First Aid)

Excellent workplace communication skills (written & verbal)

Advocacy.

Flexibility.

Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Requirements

Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector checked is required





Adult & Child Abuse Registry Check is required

Current CPR and First Aid certification is required.

Applicants must be highly cooperative and willing to be flexible in the workplace settings Preference may be given to Candidates who have the following:

Experience working with Mental Health

Experience working with Addictions.

Experience working within the Justice System

Experience working with people with Co-occurring disabilities.

Experience in providing personal care in a professional setting Please NOTE: if you have any experience in the following areas, please include in your cover letter:

ASL (American Sign Language) Training

Lifts and Transfers Certification

Autism Support Training

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training

Trauma-Informed Care

Mental Health First Aid

Communication Strategies for Non-Verbal Individuals Please NOTE: Simaril Inc. operates locations across Winnipeg, and your placement will be determined based on the needs of the individuals we support. We currently have a variety of Part Time schedules available that may align with your needs.

Job Types: Part-time Schedule:

Day shift, Evening shift, Weekend, Holidays, Monday to Friday, Night shift, Weekend availability Experience: Support Work - 1-2 Years Experience (preferred) Work Location: In person Compensation & Benefits: The Direct Support Worker wage starts at $17.10 an hour.
