About mBolden mBolden is a management consulting firm that helps organizations turn bold strategies into operational reality. We work with senior leaders navigating complex transformation, helping them create clarity, strengthen execution and build the structures, capabilities and ways of working required to deliver results.
Our work spans transformation strategy and execution, operating models, organizational design, governance and PMO, change enablement, leadership development, business agility and workforce planning. We work primarily in complex, people-intensive and regulated environments where the challenge is rarely developing another strategy. The challenge is making it work in practice.
Our approach combines the rigour and quality standards of a leading consulting firm with a more practical, embedded and outcome-oriented model. We do not produce recommendations that sit on a shelf. We work alongside clients to solve problems, make decisions, establish effective governance and translate strategy into action.
The Role
We are looking for an exceptional Engagement Manager who can lead complex client engagements from problem definition through execution.
This role sits at the centre of client delivery. You will bring structure to ambiguous problems, manage multiple workstreams, develop high-quality executive materials, facilitate senior-level discussions and ensure that commitments translate into action. You will be expected to understand both the strategic question and the operational mechanics required to deliver against it.
The right person will have been trained in a major consulting firm and will bring the discipline, judgement and quality standards that environment demands. At the same time, you must be comfortable operating without layers of infrastructure around you. At mBolden, Engagement Managers are expected to think independently, get into the details and take responsibility for the quality of the entire engagement.
This position may be structured as a permanent role or freelance engagement, depending on fit, experience and mutual preference.
What You Will Do
Lead client engagements
- Own day-to-day delivery of complex transformation and advisory engagements.
- Translate broad executive priorities into structured workplans, deliverables, decisions and measurable outcomes.
- Manage multiple workstreams, dependencies, risks, milestones and stakeholders.
- Maintain a clear view of what needs to happen, who owns it and where leadership intervention is required.
- Work directly with executives and senior leaders, building credibility through strong judgement, preparation and follow-through.
- Anticipate issues before they become delivery problems and bring forward practical options for resolution.
Build governance and execution disciplines Governance and PMO capability is a core requirement for this role.
You will
- Design and establish transformation governance structures.
- Build and manage integrated program and portfolio plans.
- Define decision rights, accountabilities, forums and escalation paths.
- Develop executive dashboards, status reporting and decision materials.
- Manage risks, issues, dependencies and critical decisions.
- Establish effective operating rhythms across leadership teams and workstreams.
- Strengthen PMO and transformation office capabilities.
- Help clients move beyond administrative project tracking toward governance that materially improves execution.
- Ensure governance is proportionate to the work rather than introducing unnecessary process.
Solve complex organizational and transformation problems Depending on the engagement, your work may include:
- Transformation strategy and execution
- Operating model design
- Organizational design
- Governance and PMO
- Strategic planning and implementation
- Change enablement
- Leadership and organizational effectiveness
- Business agility and ways of working
- Workforce planning
- Digital and AI-enabled transformation
- Operational efficiency and process improvement
- Portfolio and initiative prioritization
You do not need to be the deepest specialist in every area. You do need to understand how these disciplines connect and be able to lead work across them credibly.
Produce exceptional client work Quality matters at mBolden.
You will be responsible for ensuring that every deliverable is analytically sound, logically structured, concise and executive-ready.
That includes
- Developing transparent storylines and recommendations from complex information.
- Producing high-quality PowerPoint presentations, executive briefs, governance materials, workplans and decision documents.
- Synthesizing interviews, workshops, data and working sessions into clear conclusions.
- Reviewing materials with a highly critical eye for logic, language, accuracy, consistency and formatting.
- Ensuring that the work answers the client's actual question rather than simply completing the requested task.
- Maintaining consistently high standards even when timelines are compressed.
Attention to detail is not a secondary requirement for this role. It is part of the job.
Facilitate senior teams
- Design and facilitate executive workshops, working sessions and governance meetings.
- Structure discussions so leaders can move from competing perspectives toward decisions.
- Ask strong questions and challenge assumptions constructively.
- Read the room and adapt while maintaining the objective of the session.
- Communicate complex ideas in clear, straightforward language.
- Develop meeting materials and decision points that allow senior leaders to use their time effectively.
How We Work
Our philosophy is straightforward.
Start with the outcome. We begin with what the organization is trying to accomplish, then design the work required to get there.
Make complexity manageable. Our job is not to make sophisticated work look complicated. It is to create enough structure and clarity that leaders can make better decisions and teams can execute.
Be practical. A theoretically correct answer that cannot work inside the organization is not a good answer.
Own the result. We do not define success as completing a deck, workshop or project plan. We care about whether the work leads to better decisions, stronger execution and meaningful progress.
Use process with purpose. Governance, PMO disciplines and consulting methodologies should improve outcomes. They should never become the outcome.
Maintain exceptional standards. Clients should never have to find the error, question the logic or wonder whether a document is ready for their executive team.
Work as one team with the client. We bring expertise and independent judgement without creating unnecessary distance between consultant and client.
What We Are Looking For
Required
- Previous professional experience with a major management consulting firm is required. This may include a Big Four, global strategy firm or other established large-scale consulting organization with comparable training and delivery standards.
- Demonstrated experience leading consulting engagements or significant workstreams.
- Strong experience in governance, PMO, transformation management or complex program delivery.
- Experience working on enterprise transformation, strategy execution, operating model, organizational effectiveness, change or related work.
- Ability to structure ambiguous problems and develop a clear path forward.
- Exceptional written communication skills.
- Exceptional verbal communication and executive presence.
- Advanced PowerPoint skills and the ability to produce executive-level materials.
- Strong project and program management capability.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong analytical, synthesis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage several priorities without losing control of the details.
- Confidence working directly with executives and senior stakeholders.
- A practical, commercially minded and outcome-oriented approach to consulting.
- Ability to work independently without requiring extensive oversight.
You Will Be Particularly Strong If You
- Can take a messy situation and quickly determine what actually matters.
- Understand the difference between project administration and effective transformation governance.
- Can move comfortably between strategic questions and detailed execution.
- Know how to build an integrated plan rather than a collection of disconnected workstream updates.
- Can identify the three decisions an executive needs to make from twenty pages of information.
- Notice inconsistencies, gaps and weak logic before a client does.
- Are comfortable telling a senior leader that something does not make sense, then helping them find a better answer.
- Write clearly enough that an executive can understand the point on the first read.
- Know when consulting methodology adds value and when it is getting in the way.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality of the work carrying the mBolden name.
This Role Is Probably Not Right for You If
You prefer a highly layered consulting model where analysts produce the work, managers coordinate it and partners manage the client.
At mBolden, Engagement Managers need to do all three when required.
You must be willing to develop the storyline, fix the slide, run the meeting, challenge the assumption, update the plan and speak directly with the executive responsible for the outcome.
The strongest candidates will appreciate that level of ownership.
Employment Model
We are open to both:
- Permanent Engagement Managers who want to build with mBolden over the longer term.
- Experienced independent consultants who can join mBolden engagements on a project basis.
In either model, the expectation for client service, judgement, professionalism and quality is the same.
