The Executive Chef

Manager will lead high-volume café and catering production, strengthen culinary standards, support an engaged kitchen team, and bring creativity, consistency, and strong operational oversight to a meaningful healthcare environment. In this visible leadership role, you will influence menu development, food quality, customer experience, operational standards, team engagement, and revenue growth while supporting the needs of patients, families and caregivers, staff, visitors, and internal clients. Here's What You'll Get To Do Culinary Leadership and Menu Development Lead all back-of-house culinary operations across retail café and catering production.

Standardize recipes, yields, portion control, presentation, temperature control, and food quality expectations to support consistent and high-quality service delivery.

Develop creative and customer-focused menus that reflect nutritional standards, cultural diversity, food trends, seasonal planning, and revenue opportunities.

Support food experiences that are welcoming, inclusive, culturally responsive, and reflective of the diverse communities we serve. Brings progressive culinary ideas forward while balancing operational feasibility, budget expectations, customer needs, and the realities of a hospital environment. Food Safety, Quality, and Compliance Ensure strong food safety, sanitation, allergen control, HACCP documentation, Public Health compliance, infection prevention & control (IPAC) alignment, inspections, audits, and corrective action follow-up.

Maintain high standards for kitchen organization, storage practices, service readiness, production planning, and daily operational discipline.

Partner with key stakeholders to support safe, high-quality, and reliable food services across café, catering, and patient-focused service areas.

People





Leadership and Team Development Provide direct leadership, technical supervision, recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance support for unionized culinary staff.

Build bench strength, support succession planning, and foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative kitchen culture.

Support team engagement, confidence, and success through periods of change while maintaining a high-performing and respectful work environment.

Model clear communication, practical problem-solving, and calm decision-making in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Operational and Financial Performance Support food cost management, inventory control, waste reduction, procurement alignment, pricing strategy, menu engineering, and revenue optimization.

Oversee kitchen workflows, preventative maintenance, pest management, equipment needs, modernization opportunities, and capital planning recommendations.

Use operational data, customer and client feedback, and daily service observations to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Partnership and Service Excellence Partner with the Terrace Café Manager and Catering Manager to support seamless end-to-end service delivery, including catering feasibility, timelines, production planning, and execution for all events spaces.

Serve as a culinary subject matter expert and consulting partner to Patient Food Services, supporting menu-related guidance, food quality standards, operational feasibility, and patient-focused service improvements.

Build effective relationships with internal clients and operational partners to support responsive, high-quality, consistent service in a complex healthcare setting. Here's What You'll Need Minimum 7 years of progressive culinary leadership experience, preferably in healthcare, large-scale institutional foodservice, or a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant environment.

Culinary Management Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Food Handler Certification required.

Red Seal Certification or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification required.

Demonstrated ability to lead complex back-of-house culinary operations in a high-volume, unionized environment.

Strong knowledge of food safety legislation, HACCP, allergen control, sanitation systems, IPAC principles, WHMIS, and occupational health and safety requirements.

Experience leading, coaching, training, and performance-managing unionized culinary teams.

Proven financial acumen with experience managing food cost, inventory,



procurement alignment, waste reduction, and operational budgets.

Experience with menu development, recipe standardization, portion control, menu engineering, promotional planning, and revenue optimization.

Strong communication, critical thinking, stakeholder partnership, problem-solving, and operational decision-making skills.
