Root River Logging is seeking an experienced and motivated Forester / Forestry Operations Supervisor to join our team. This position will support and oversee the safe, efficient, productive, and compliant delivery of logging and wood chipping operations throughout Northwestern Ontario.

The position will be primarily field-based and will involve significant supervision and coordination of bush operations, including harvesting and chipping activities. The successful candidate will also complete associated operational planning, compliance, mapping, reporting, and administrative work as required.

Duties

- Supervise and coordinate day-to-day logging and chipping operations, including field crews, equipment activities, and production priorities.
- Coordinate harvesting, forwarding, chipping, trucking, and equipment movements to maintain efficient workflow and production.
- Work closely with equipment operators, truck drivers, contractors, management, and forest industry clients.
- Review and interpret operating maps, harvest direction, prescriptions, boundaries, and other operational requirements.
- Monitor harvesting activities for compliance with environmental, contractual, operational, and safety requirements.
- Conduct field inspections and identify and address operational or compliance concerns.
- Assist with harvest block layout, boundary verification, GPS/GIS mapping, and field documentation.
- Assist with scheduling, resource allocation, operational logistics, and coordination of crews and equipment.
- Monitor field conditions and identify practical solutions to production, access, equipment, or operational challenges.




- Maintain accurate operational, compliance, production, and other required records.
- Provide leadership and direction to employees while reinforcing Root River Logging health and safety policies and safe work practices.
- Complete other forestry, supervisory, operational, and administrative duties as required.

Requirements

- Post-secondary education in Forestry, Forest Management, Forestry Technician/Technology, Natural Resources, or a related field, with strong preference given to candidates with Ontario forestry experience.
- Forestry or logging operations experience is required.
- Strong understanding of mechanized forest harvesting operations and forestry equipment.
- Experience supervising employees, contractors, or field operations is considered a robust asset.
- Ability to interpret forestry maps, operating prescriptions, harvest requirements, and environmental restrictions.
- Experience with GPS/GIS or digital forestry mapping applications.
- Strong organizational, communication, documentation, logistical, and problem-solving skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with heavy forestry equipment and its operational requirements are considered assets.
- Ability to work independently, establish priorities,



and make sound field decisions.
- Valid Class G driver's licence and ability to travel extensively on forestry roads.
- Willingness to work outdoors in remote locations, extended hours, weekends, and camp stays as required.
- Strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, productivity, accountability, and teamwork.

Assets

- Registered Professional Forester (R.P.F.), Associate R.P.F., or eligibility for registration.
- Ontario Forest Operations Compliance Inspector certification.
- First Aid/CPR and applicable forestry health and safety training.
- Experience with wood chipping operations.
- Supervisory experience in mechanized logging operations.
- Experience working with Sustainable Forest Licence holders or other forest industry clients.
- Knowledge of Northwestern Ontario forestry operations.

Pay: To be negotiated based on qualifications and experience
