For more information, please visit our website: edgettexcavating.ca About the Opportunity Edgett Excavating is looking for a full time Hydrovac Foreman based in Comox Valley, British Columbia.
Reporting to the General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the day-to-day operations and continued growth of the Hydrovac Division, with responsibility for its employees, customers, equipment, scheduling, and overall performance. In this position, you will be primarily responsible for coordinating crews, trucks, and customer requirements while developing employees, supporting field operations, maintaining fleet readiness, and helping the division deliver responsive, efficient, and profitable service. Specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leading, training, and supporting Hydrovac Operators and crew members
Coordinating daily schedules for trucks, employees, and customer assignments
Responding to changing customer requests and balancing competing operational priorities
Ensuring crews have the tools, parts, equipment, and support required to work effectively
Visiting active job sites to assess operations, support employees, and provide practical coaching
Operating Hydrovac equipment when operationally necessary
Monitoring truck readiness, cleanliness, organization, maintenance needs, and equipment inventory
Building strong relationships with customers and maintaining responsive communication
Supporting the procurement of tools, parts, and operational supplies
Identifying opportunities to improve operations, strengthen customer service, and grow the division
Taking ownership of the division’s productivity, resource utilization, and overall business performance
Working collaboratively with employees, customers, and company leadership to deliver positive outcomes About You To qualify, you will need 3+ years of leadership experience within civil construction, excavation, underground utilities, or a related construction environment, including experience leading or supervising field crews. Previous hydrovac experience, particularly within civil construction, would be a strong asset. However, Edgett Excavating also welcomes civil construction foremen and junior foremen with strong people leadership, customer service, scheduling, and operational capabilities, as hydrovac-specific knowledge can be taught to the right candidate.
The following are required:
Valid driver’s licence, ideally a class 1 or 3 licence
Willingness and ability to travel to and work across multiple construction sites within the region
Willingness to remain accessible by phone outside regular working hours when urgent operational issues arise Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
Experience coordinating crews, equipment, schedules, and changing operational priorities
Practical knowledge of civil construction, excavation, and how construction work is performed
Strong people leadership, employee training, and crew-development capabilities The confidence to visit job sites, assess work in progress, and help employees improve The ability to identify operational improvements and opportunities for business growth
Strong scheduling and organizational skills, with the ability to respond calmly during sudden periods of high demand
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver responsive customer service and build lasting relationships
Sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities in active construction environments
