Read further to learn how you could help make outstanding things possible not only in your community, but around the world. We believe building engineering is more than systems and structures, it’s about powering progress and enabling innovation.

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high-performance data centers driving the future of AI to dynamic commercial environments, your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. We bring together mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering experts to solve complex design challenges with precision, creativity, and collaboration.

Whether you're optimizing energy efficiency, integrating resilient systems, or engineering the backbone of next-generation facilities, your contributions will help define the future of the built setting. This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to lead innovation, engineer impact, and build a legacy of excellence.

HDR is seeking a Mechanical BIM Designer to support the delivery of complex building and infrastructure projects across Canada and North America.

In this role, you will contribute directly to the development of Mechanical models, drawings, and coordinated design packages, working within an integrated, multi-disciplinary team setting. You will be actively involved from early design through construction, supporting the production of high-quality, coordinated deliverables aligned with project requirements and schedules.

Reporting to the Mechanical Section Manager or the manager’s delegates, you will work alongside Mechanical engineers, and other discipline leads, to develop and maintain BIM models, prepare detailed drawings, and support coordination with architectural, structural, MEP, and civil teams. The role requires a strong understanding of Mechanical systems, constructability, and BIM workflows within a collaborative delivery environment. In this role,

you will also play a key part in translating Mechanical design concepts into coordinated, constructible models and drawings.

The quality and clarity of your modeling work will directly influence how these Mechanical systems are realized in the field.

Our project portfolio spans a diverse range of sectors, including educational, civic, defense, data centers, healthcare, industrial, water/wastewater, and commercial developments. Projects are located across North America.

In the role of Mechanical BIM Designer, we'll count on you to: Work for the Mechanical discipline, under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer, or other technical professional

Be proactive in communicating BIM progress, clashes, and issues, and in assessing, planning, and communicating modeling workload, priorities, and schedule impacts.

Interpret Mechanical sketches and design intent, and translate them into detailed drawings in accordance with company drafting standards.

Continuously improve drawing clarity, readiness, and communication of design information, and organize drawings in a clear and logical manner.

Accurately model the piping, ductwork, plumbing and equipment BIM elements in the correct special constraints of the modeling environment, using the current 3D software

Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, & diagrams of the design within the project scope, schedule, and budget, using the current 3D software

Maintain the discipline model including project information, coordinates, scales, orientations, scope boundaries, match-lines, views, and sheets

Produce discipline specific documentation with accurate annotations on all modeling output

Monitor, improve,

and maintain company standards and model health

Coordinate the design with other discipline models through Design Reviews and the 3D Coordination process

Assist or execute any additional Digital Delivery requirements identified on the project

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for innovation, collaboration, new experiences, opportunities and exceeding client expectations. Our goal is to help our clients achieve high performance in safety, quality, cost efficiency and profitability for their capital projects and on-going operations.
