Twelve Mile Recovery is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and professional Awake Overnight Addiction Support Worker to join our residential addiction treatment team in St. Catharines, Ontario.

The Overnight Addiction Support Worker plays an important role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and structured workplace for clients throughout the overnight hours. This position involves providing emotional and practical support to clients, monitoring the residential environment, responding appropriately to emerging concerns, and ensuring continuity of care between overnight and daytime staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has a genuine interest in addiction recovery, mental health, and trauma-informed care. Lived experience with addiction and recovery is considered a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide overnight support and supervision to clients participating in a residential addiction treatment program.
- Maintain a safe, calm, respectful, and supportive residential environment throughout the overnight shift.
- Monitor client wellness and respond appropriately to physical, emotional, behavioural, or mental health concerns.
- Build positive, professional relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Support clients who may be experiencing anxiety, emotional distress, cravings, sleep difficulties, or other challenges during overnight hours.
- Follow established procedures for crisis response, safety concerns, medication protocols, emergencies, and incident reporting.
- Recognize changes in client presentation or behaviour and communicate concerns promptly to appropriate members of the clinical or management team.
- Complete accurate and timely overnight documentation, including shift notes, client observations, incidents, and relevant communication for the incoming team.
- Conduct scheduled overnight checks in accordance with program policies and client safety requirements.




- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all applicable privacy, ethical, and organizational standards.
- Support the implementation of individualized client treatment and recovery plans as directed by the clinical team.
- Assist with maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and overall functioning of the residential setting.
- Communicate effectively with daytime staff to ensure continuity of care and accurate transfer of relevant information.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, supervision, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives as required.
- Model professionalism, emotional regulation, respectful communication, and healthy boundaries at all times.

Qualifications

- Diploma, certificate, or relevant education in Addictions & Mental Health, Social Service Work, Social Work, Community Services, Human Services, or a related field is preferred.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check required.
- Previous experience working in addiction treatment, mental health, residential care, crisis support, shelters, community services, or a related environment is considered an asset.
- Lived experience with addiction and recovery is a strong asset and highly valued.
- Strong understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and client dignity.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, grounded, and professional when responding to challenging situations.
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours while maintaining effective communication with the broader team.
- Reliable, responsible, and comfortable working within established policies and procedures.




- Commitment to trauma-informed, client-centred, culturally responsive, and evidence-informed practice.

Training Provided

Successful candidates will receive training in key areas relevant to the role, including:

- Trauma-Informed Care
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
- Suicide Intervention Skills
- Addiction and recovery support
- De-escalation and crisis response
- Professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Program-specific policies, procedures, and emergency protocols

Preferred Experience

- Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use or mental health concerns.
- Experience in a residential treatment, supportive housing, shelter, healthcare, or community-based setting.
- Familiarity with harm reduction, relapse prevention, motivational approaches, and trauma-informed practice.
- Understanding of holistic and non-12-Step approaches to addiction recovery.
- Lived experience with addiction and recovery.

Working Conditions

- Awake Overnight position
- Must be available for overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
- On-site at our residential treatment facility in St. Catharines, Ontario.
- Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout the overnight shift.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and changing client needs.
- Team-oriented environment with ongoing communication between overnight, clinical, and residential staff.

Compensation & Benefits
- $25-28/hr, based on experience and qualifications.
