· Position 1: Saturday to Monday, 11:00 p.m. – 8:30 a.m. · Position 2: Tuesday to Friday, 11:00 p.m. – 8:30 a.m.
Compensation: $24/hour
Start Date: September 2026

Ryding House is a new 12-bed residential addiction treatment program opening in Toronto. We are building a welcoming, respectful and supportive environment for adults seeking support with addiction and recovery. Our team works from a relational, person-centred, and trauma- and violence-informed approach.
About the Role The Overnight Counsellor helps maintain a safe, calm, and supportive environment for residents during overnight hours. They respond to emerging concerns, complete routine safety checks, and help ensure the house is ready for the following day.
This role requires sound judgment, reliability, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations. Key Responsibilities
Resident Safety & Support
Maintain a safe and calm overnight environment. Conduct routine wellness and safety checks in accordance with Ryding House policies and procedures. Respond calmly and appropriately to resident needs or concerns during the night, including emotional distress, health concerns, or emergencies, following established procedures.
Support program expectations in a consistent, respectful, and non-punitive manner.
Safety & Communication
Monitor the residential environment for safety concerns Observe and communicate changes in residents' presentation, behaviour, or wellbeing to the clinical team. Complete timely and accurate shift documentation and incident reports.
Participate in shift handovers and communicate relevant information to incoming staff.
Overnight Operations
Complete assigned overnight housekeeping and safety duties.
Prepare shared spaces for the morning program.
Maintain qualified boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
Participate in required training, staff meetings, and professional development.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who is calm, dependable, observant, and able to work independently while maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.
Required qualifications include
Minimum two years of experience in addiction services, mental health, residential services, housing, or related community-based services.
Diploma in Addictions and Mental Health, Social Service Work, Community Service Work, or a related field is an asset.
Ability to engage residents respectfully and without judgment, with awareness of the impacts of trauma, stigma, culture, life experience, and social circumstances.
Ability to remain calm and organized while working independently and responding to unexpected situations.
Strong communication, documentation, and professional boundary skills.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Successful Vulnerable Sector Check.
Lived experience with addiction and recovery is considered an asset.
