Mattress-in-a-Box Manufacturing Build the team. Raise the standard. Deliver world-class performance. VPC Group is looking for a Plant Manager to lead our Calgary mattress-in-a-box manufacturing operation.
This is not a role for someone who simply maintains the status quo. We are looking for a hands-on manufacturing leader who can build a strong team, establish disciplined operating standards, and execute a clear plan to move the plant toward world-class performance. Reporting to the VP of Operations, Comfort Products Division, you will have overall accountability for the Calgary operation — people, safety, quality, service, productivity, cost, and continuous improvement.
You will be highly visible on the plant floor, working with your leadership team to identify problems, establish priorities, and fix things fast — and fix them right.
What You Will
Accomplish
You will be responsible for turning our operating strategy into measurable results. Your focus will include:
Safety: Build a culture where safety is non-negotiable and visible in everyday behaviour and decisions.
People: Build, coach, and hold accountable a strong leadership team and engaged workforce.
Customer: Consistently deliver quality products and customer commitments.
Performance: Improve productivity, labour efficiency, throughput, downtime, waste, and overall plant performance.
Quality: Establish disciplined processes and eliminate recurring quality problems.
Cost: Manage the operation with a strong understanding of labour, materials, waste, maintenance, and operating costs.
Continuous Improvement: Create a culture where problems are identified, understood, and permanently solved.
Execution: Establish clear priorities, measurable KPIs, and accountability — and make sure the plan gets executed. You will use data to understand performance, but you will also know when to stop analyzing and start acting.
The Leader We Are Looking
For
We are looking for someone who is visible, decisive, accountable, and relentless about standards.
What You
Bring to This Role
8+ years of progressive leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
A hands-on leadership style — visible on the floor, setting clear expectations and driving accountability.
Proven success leading and developing supervisors and front-line teams.
A track record of improving safety, quality, productivity, cost, and overall plant performance.
Solid operational knowledge across production, labour, maintenance, inventory, and quality.
Experience using KPIs and data to identify issues, drive decisions, and measure results.
Strong coaching, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and continuous-improvement skills.
The confidence to address difficult issues, make decisions, and act with urgency.
A strong ownership mindset with a focus on solutions, results, and building a high-performance culture.
Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is an asset.
Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or related manufacturing experience/training is an asset. A degree or technical background in Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related discipline is preferred, but leadership ability and demonstrated results matter most.
Why This Role
Matters The Calgary operation has an opportunity to become a world-class manufacturing facility.
As Plant Manager, you will have the opportunity — and the accountability — to make that happen.
You will shape the culture, develop the leadership team, improve the operation, and create an environment where safety, quality, service, performance, and pride are visible every day. If you are the kind of leader who sees a problem and thinks “we can do better,” who takes pride in building great teams, and who wants to leave an operation stronger than you found it, we want to hear from you. Build the team. Raise the standard. Deliver the results.
