Residential Real Estate Law Clerk , for a mid-size law firm client, North York.

Job Type: Full Time Permanent.

Target Compensation: From $65,000 to $75,000 per annum, according to experience, plus comprehensive benefits.
Regular Work Hours: 7.0 hours per day not including 1 hour lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (35.0 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 2 days remote-based and 3 days onsite at client's North York office, with free parking provided. Probationary period to be worked 100% onsite.
Responsibilities Summary:
Provide comprehensive legal services to the residential real estate legal team, supporting all stages of residential real estate transactions, including purchases, sales, refinances, mortgage transactions, transfers of title, and private lending matters.
- Prepare and review legal documents including agreements of purchase and sale, mortgage documentation, statements of adjustments, title documents, and other residential real estate closing documentation.
- Conduct title and off-title searches, review search results, identify and resolve title issues, and coordinate required registrations.
- Prepare, assemble and coordinate closing documentation, including reporting letters, trust ledgers, account statements, requisition letters, and final reporting packages.
- Communicate directly with clients, financial institutions, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and opposing counsel to coordinate all aspects of residential real estate closings.
- Complete electronic registrations and process transactions.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable real estate legislation, Law Society requirements, lender instructions, and firm procedures.
- Maintain accurate and organized legal files, monitor transaction deadlines, and ensure timely completion of all matters.
- Provide additional law clerk support for residential real estate transactions and related matters, as required.
Qualifications: Education: Law Clerk Diploma from a recognized Ontario Law Clerk program.
Professional Credentials: Certified with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario.
Preferred Work Experience: At least 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in residential real estate law, independently managing a high volume of residential purchase, sale, refinance, and mortgage transactions from file opening through closing.
Preferred Sector Experience: Law Firm experience preferred.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (may be tested).
- Fast and accurate typing skills and attention to detail (will be tested).
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat (may be tested).
- Strong technical skills in Conveyancer and Teraview electronic registration systems.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, including advanced-level business writing skills, excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading and syntax, and polished, professional telephone manners.
Task-Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:
- Demonstrated experience independently managing a high-volume residential real estate practice while maintaining accuracy and meeting closing deadlines.
- Robust knowledge of Ontario residential real estate conveyancing procedures, title searching, registrations, mortgage financing, and closing processes.
- Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character.
- Resourceful, with strong research, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
- Superior attention to detail, and organized, methodical approach to completion of tasks.
- Advanced organizational, coordinative and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, manage multiple concurrent closings,
meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and liaise effectively with clients, financial institutions, real estate professionals, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to promptly provide minimum of 2 recent, qualified employment references at point of client interview who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg's client.
- Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities.
- Satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, Interpersonal Skills Assessment, and Employment References as required.
