Saint Antoine Primary Students Explore Emerging Technologies At ACEIoT The African Centre of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) welcomed a group of P6 students from Saint Antoine, Huye, on 26 June 2026 for an educational visit aimed at introducing young learners to emerging technologies, innovation, and scientific research.

Accompanied by their teachers, the students toured the Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, where they were introduced to a range of innovative technologies and research projects being developed by ACEIoT students and researchers.

The visit offered the learners a unique opportunity to experience firsthand how technology is being used to address real-world challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, environmental monitoring, smart cities, and education.

Throughout the tour, the Centre Director, Prof. Damien Hanyurwimfura explained how ideas are transformed into practical technological solutions through scientific research, creativity, and collaboration. The students observed demonstrations of various Internet of Things (IoT) applications and learned about the process of designing, testing, and implementing innovative technologies.

The visit was highly interactive,

with the students asking numerous insightful questions about the technologies they encountered. They were particularly interested in understanding how innovations are conceived, the skills required to develop them, and the educational pathways that lead to careers in science, engineering, and technology. Their curiosity reflected a solid desire to learn more about the world of research and innovation.

Teachers accompanying the students commended the Centre for providing an inspiring learning experience beyond the classroom. They noted that exposing learners to advanced technologies at an early stage broadens their understanding of career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and motivates them to pursue academic excellence.

The visit forms part of ACEIoT’s commitment to promoting STEM education and strengthening the culture of innovation among young people. By opening its doors to schools, the Centre seeks to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators while demonstrating the transformative role of technology in improving lives and supporting sustainable development.
