General Job Description
The Electrical and Controls Supervisor provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for the Machine Group Automation Team. This role requires a proven track record of prioritizing critical project initiatives while effectively directing the work of multi-disciplinary technical teams. Possessing robust interpersonal communication skills, the supervisor thrives in diverse work environments and leverages hands-on troubleshooting capabilities to resolve complex production and project issues in a professional, timely manner.
Abilities, Duties and Responsibilities:
- Project Lead for installation of automated equipment
- Responsible for all electrical inspection documentation.
- Coordinate and facilitate PSHSR inspection reports for new or modified equipment.
- Maintain a documented weekly summary of completed work.
- Plan and maintain an overtime schedule for upcoming and uncompleted projects.
- Report any manpower and disciplinary actions to management.
- Maintain a monthly work schedule of upcoming and uncompleted projects that will be shared with all departments.
- Provide technical advice & assistance to maintenance personnel, contractors etc.
- Assist in developing procedures and standards to control various project issues.
- Cost analysis and maintaining project budgets.
- Project Scheduling.
- Yearly expense & Capital budgeting.
- Negotiating project costs that may include equipment, materials and labour rates.
- Configure control strategies to increase plant automation.
- Control Programming for a variety of PLC and HMI, including Beckhoff, Omron, GE Fanuc, Toshiba & Allen Bradley.
- Create, review and approve electrical schematics, AutoCAD & EPlan.
- Present factory automated solutions to management.
- Work in a safe manner and maintain 5S.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Execute structured training programs to enhance technical competencies, ensuring team proficiencies align with corporate operational standards.
- Maintain strict vigilance over workplace environments, proactively identifying hazards and reporting safety infractions to executive management to preserve a zero-incident culture.
- Manage the daily deployment and task delegation for the Machine Group, balancing individual technical strengths against fluctuating project demands.
- Convene and chair routine automation group meetings to drive cross-functional brainstorming, concept generation, and deployment strategies for approved capital projects.
- Execute comprehensive job-costing analyses, tracking capital components, material allocations, and human resource expenditures to maintain strict project margin controls
- Formulate and execute rigorous annualized performance evaluations for all automation group personnel, establishing key performance indicators and career development pathing
Qualifications
- Have relevant Controls and/or electrical qualification. Robotics and Automation diploma, Technologist diploma in Electrical engineering,
Industrial Electrician license or equivalent training and experience.
- Proven leadership experience (as a supervisor, team leader, or project lead) within an industrial automation or technical manufacturing group is preferred.
- Ability to communicate with technical professionals & skilled trades at all levels of experience and management.
Language Skills
- English and able to communicate well with others.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to exercise balanced judgment in evaluation situations and making decisions
