What you’ll do
- Maintain and update financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and reports, providing insights into the organization's financial performance.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, collaborating with various departments to gather necessary data.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate payments and collections.
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Support the preparation of tax returns and other regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal laws.
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and support as required.
- Participate in financial analysis projects, identifying trends and providing recommendations for cost‑saving measures.
- Maintain organized financial documentation and records, ensuring easy access for team members and auditors.
- Provide support to the finance team in various ad‑hoc projects and tasks as needed.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and accounting regulations to ensure the organization remains compliant and competitive.
Requirements
- A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in a corporate or non‑profit environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software, such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with team members and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- A proactive approach to problem‑solving and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Nice to have
- Experience with non‑profit accounting or grant management is a plus.
- Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements in Canada.
- Certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or working towards it is advantageous.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools for financial reporting.
- Experience in budgeting and forecastings processes.
