Your opportunity: Reporting to the Director, Hospitality Services and working closely with the Executive Chef, the Manager, Dining Operations is a champion of exceptional customer service at Hart House, ensuring all Hospitality Services offerings are delivered to the highest standard for students, internal partners, faculty, staff, alumni, and the wider GTA community. The Manager plays a critical role in building and expanding Hart House’s dining operations. This role is highly hands‑on, with the expectation that the Manager is regularly present and active on the floor in both dining operations, directly supporting staff and engaging with guests during service. This role shapes a strong culture of hospitality across both fast‑casual and full‑service settings while upholding professional service, safety requirements, and legal obligations. As the operational lead for The Arbor Room and Gallery Grill, the Manager demonstrates inclusive behaviours, fosters a welcoming dining environment, and guides staff with calm, confident leadership—turning unexpected challenges into moments of outstanding service. To support revenue growth, the Manager recommends recent menu offerings, seasonal features, product innovations, and value‑driven promotions or combos that enhance guest satisfaction and strengthen financial performance. Using data‑informed insights,



they identify opportunities to elevate the customer experience and drive sustainable business results. Operational excellence is further achieved by optimizing staffing levels to meet fluctuating business demands. The Manager forecasts traffic patterns, aligns schedules to maintain service standards, and deploys labour efficiently to ensure cost‑effective operations. The Manager also leads comprehensive staff development, overseeing onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching to ensure employees understand expectations and are set up for long‑term success in their roles. Overall, the successful candidate for this role brings a passion for hospitality, sound judgment, and an entrepreneurial mindset that supports the continued growth and vitality of Hart House Dining Operations. Your responsibilities will include: Overseeing day‑to‑day operational needs of the unit Planning front‑of‑house operational workflows and procedures for service team Analyzing sales packages offered to clients and recommending changes to increase business Pitching for new business using innovative sales techniques Analyzing customer service procedures and making recommendations for improvements Developing and editing standard operating procedures Maintaining the occupational safety and security of staff, premises and contents Assessing needs and contributing to the planning of unit goals and initiatives Essential Qualifications: College Diploma (2 years), preferably in a relevant discipline such as Hospitality Management or customer service‑related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience. Current Smart Service Certification is required. Minimum five years of experience in hospitality services, preferably working in client‑facing roles in full‑service and fast casual operations. Strong knowledge of service standards, and different service types. Experience in serving diverse clientele and client groups. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all work responsibilities and in cooperative workplace practices. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to superlative customer service. Experience developing and implementing standard operating procedures, including, but not limited to, training manuals, customer service standards, and daily task lists. Experience ensuring standards are maintained consistently across team members and providing feedback as needed. Previous experience supervising and training staff, preferably in a unionized environment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent organizational and multi‑tasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to foster supportive and inclusive team culture. Thorough working knowledge of MS Office 365.



Proficient in POS systems and other relevant platforms/applications (e.G. Touch Bistro, Asana, Open Table, StaffMate scheduling software etc.). Assets (Nonessential): Experience working in food services within an academic setting. Experience assisting with start‑up operations/initiatives. Successful completion and current valid WHMIS certification. Successful completion and current valid First Aid Training. Successful completion and current valid Food Handling & Safety Certification.
