Senior Manager, Commercial and Business Development (YLW)The Senior Manager, Commercial and Business Development is responsible for leading Kelowna International Airport’s (“YLW”) commercial and business development functions. The position includes commercial development, business development, community relations, chance generation and management, stakeholder relations, and brand management. The incumbent will lead the development and delivery of strategic commercial and business development strategies, programs, projects and initiatives, including those targeting non‑aeronautical revenue streams. The role supports continued service improvements for passengers, stakeholders and campus businesses, and leads the identification and coordination of new airport business opportunities, commercial leasing, food and beverage, concessions, strategic marketing and community engagement.This position is accountable for fostering strategic partnerships, brand management, stakeholder relations, and revenue generation across the airport campus and with external partners.Business DevelopmentLead the implementation of the business development vision and strategic objectives to align with YLW’s overall strategic planDevelop and implement specific business opportunity strategies to drive aeronautical and non‑aeronautical revenuesOversee adaptation to changing market situations, managing strategy to meet market conditions and challengesLead engagement with external stakeholders and airport partners, positioning YLW as a key regional economic driverCommercial DevelopmentLead the development of commercial vision and strategic objectives to achieve revenue generation, operational excellence and innovation goalsLead and develop commercial leasing opportunities, food and beverage and concession contracts, advertising and sponsorship, and community engagement opportunitiesDiscover, develop and negotiate real estate, property management and other commercial land development opportunities at YLWBrand ManagementOversee brand programs, including sponsorships and advertisements, to promote YLW as the region’s key economic driverLead and coordinate the development of the department’s communication and marketing material; approve marketingand communications materialOversee community events, travel shows and activations that enhance YLW’s brand and reputation within the local communityStakeholder RelationsLead development of new opportunities to build community awarenessIdentify,
build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholdersEstablish and maintain a network of professional peers and recommend innovative approaches that enhance service delivery and performanceCollect and interpret information and data related to business development, commercial development, community engagement and brand management for analysis, reporting and planningStrategic PartnershipsFoster meaningful partnerships with business groups, industry associations, economic development and tourism organizations, municipal, provincial and federal agencies, and Indigenous community groupsOversee design, implementation and execution of the annual Business Development, Marketing and Commercial Development plansLead development and implementation of initiatives supporting YLW’s strategies, goals and revenue growth targetsRepresent YLW at business, economic development and tourism functions and eventsHuman ResourcesOversee a multidisciplinary team of contractors and consultants to achieve strategic goalsLead, direct, supervise, develop and mentor employees; manage performance and employee development, and make hiring, discipline and dismissal recommendationsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, marketing or related field (equivalent education and experience may be considered)Minimum eight (8) years of directly related experience in airport commercial development, business development, economic development or related fieldsMinimum five (5) years of supervisory or management experience, including leading multidisciplinary operational teams in a unionized or complex regulatory environmentExperience negotiating and managing leases, concessions, contracts and public‑private partnerships (P3)Demonstrated experience and expertise in business development, strategic planning and implementation of commercial initiativesBuilding Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) licensed professionalAccredited Airport Executive (AAE) designation or Airport Management Professional Accreditation Program (AMPAP); or ability to obtain within three (3) yearsPreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in a related fieldPrevious experience working directly with or for an airline in network planning or schedulingKnowledge of Canadian aviation regulatory frameworks and airport governance structuresExperience working with tourism boards,
