Director, Economic Development & Tourism
Reporting to the Commissioner of Community Growth & Economic Development, the Director of Economic Development will provide strategic direction for the Region of Durham and serve as a key force in the marketing of Durham Region at the local, national and international level.
The incumbent will:
- Develop, manage, and plan marketing strategies, campaigns, and special events to enhance the image of the Region with the public and the business community
- Serve as the key contact for all Economic Development issues pertaining to the Region of Durham
- Advise internal and external stakeholders on various business opportunities and strategies
- Provide guidance to various associations and coordinate programs with appropriate branches of the provincial and federal governments.
- Direct the administrative functions of the department (i.e. budgetary, clerical functions)
- Serve as a resource to other departments for various marketing activities
- Coach and mentor, and provide guidance to internal staff
The successful applicant will possess:
- A degree in Business, Commerce or related equivalent combination of education and experience
- A relevant Economic Development designation (i.e. Ec.D designation)
- Progressive experience within economic development, marketing and well versed in tourism practices and demonstrate
knowledge and understanding of real estate and land use planning principles
- Experience developing and implementing marketing plans and budgets
- Leadership in relation to staff development
- Excellent communication, presentation, organization, time management skills and ability to address diverse needs and systemic barriers when resolving challenges
- Municipal experience plus significant activity in the private sector would be an asset
Management & Exempt Salary Grade 10
- Salary: $160,824 to $201,030 per annum
