1:1 Behavioural & Learning Support Assistant

Position Type: Full-Time Contract (School Year, approximately 30–35 hours per week)

Location: Hamilton Hebrew Academy – Hamilton, Ontario

Compensation: Market-competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Reports To: School Administration and the Student's Family

Position Overview:

The Hamilton Hebrew Academy is seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated 1:1 Behavioural & Learning Support Assistant to provide individualized support for a Grade 1 student during the 2026–2027 school year. This position is being hired by the school on behalf of the student's family.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting a student academically, behaviourally, and socially within an inclusive school environment. Working collaboratively with the classroom teacher, school administration, the family, and outside professionals, the successful candidate will support the student's academic learning, behavioural success, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and social development while fostering increasing independence and confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day while promoting the student's independence and confidence.
- Support the implementation of the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP), Behaviour Support Plan (BSP), and other individualized recommendations, where applicable.
- Reinforce teacher-directed instruction in early literacy, mathematics, and other academic

areas.
- Assist the student in maintaining attention, organization, task initiation, task completion, and classroom participation.
- Utilize proactive, positive behaviour support strategies to promote emotional regulation, flexibility, and successful participation throughout the school day.




- Support smooth transitions between activities and provide guidance during less structured times, including recess, lunch, gym, and other school activities.
- Encourage positive peer interactions, social problem-solving, and the development of age-appropriate social skills.
- Implement agreed-upon strategies to de-escalate challenging situations while maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain daily documentation regarding observations, successful strategies, behavioural trends, and student progress, as requested.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with teachers, school staff, parents, and outside professionals to ensure consistency in supporting the student.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive working relationships with all members of the school community.

Qualifications: We welcome applications from candidates with one or more of the following:

- Educational Assistant (EA) diploma
- Child and Youth Worker (CYW) diploma
- Developmental Services Worker (DSW) diploma
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) diploma
- Bachelor of Education or Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT)
- Degree or diploma in Psychology, Child Studies, Social Work, Behavioural Sciences, or another related field
- Equivalent education and/or relevant experience supporting children with diverse learning and behavioural needs

Preferred Experience & Skills:

- Experience providing one-to-one support to children in a school, community,



or therapeutic setting.
- Experience supporting early elementary-aged students.
- Experience supporting students with learning differences, attention and executive functioning challenges, behavioural needs, and social-emotional development.
- Experience implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), or similar individualized support plans.
- Knowledge of structured literacy, evidence-based reading instruction, or early literacy intervention is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification and a valid Vulnerable Sector Check are

considered assets. The Ideal Candidate:

They demonstrate sound judgment, remain composed in challenging situations, and work collaboratively with teachers, families, and other professionals. They are flexible in their approach, responsive to the student's individual needs, and committed to helping the student develop confidence, self-regulation, independence, and a positive school experience.

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday, following the school calendar (September–June)
- Approximately 30–35 hours per week
- Hours align with the school day
