The Assistant Director provides and coordinates the necessary support, resources, supervision, and leadership to ensure nurturing care and education for young children in a group setting. This is in accordance with the program's goals and curriculum plans, aligned with the philosophy and policies of 1st Class, and in strict compliance with the Alberta Childcare Licensing Act.
The Assistant
Director reports to the Director and the Regional Director.
Duties and Responsibilities - WorkswithandsupportstheDirectortoensuresandfacilitatethesmooth functioning of all aspects of the program to best serve the children and families.
- Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring to staff.
- Support staff in their roles, addressing issues, and providing guidance to ensure smooth program functioning.
- Works closely with the program Director to ensure the efficient administrative operation of the program.
- Maintain full compliance with the Child Care Licensing Regulations. Ensuring children’s attendance records are correct and child-to-adult ratios are always maintained, all administrative records (children and staff) are up to date.
- Assists the Director and ensures monthly licensing checklists are completed.
- Ensurestheprogram is always in compliance with licensing and health regulations.
- Ensures and oversees checks of medication and medication forms.
- Ensures incident/accident reports are completed correctly and discussed with the Director.
- Supports staff with program planning and implementation.
- Fostersandmaintainspositiverelationships while ensuring consistent communicationwith parents.
- Address parent concerns and discuss unresolved issues/concerns with the Director.
- Assists and ensures staff are observing children for indicators of potential learning or behavioral issues.
- Ensuresprogramspacesarecleanandalways organized.
- Ensures that staff keepalltoysandmaterialsareclean,properly maintained and are developmentally appropriate for the age-group.
- Ensures all housing-keeping duties are completed in a timely manner.
- Performsotherrelateddutiesasrequestedbythemanagement team and cancompetentlyperform the director’s duties in their absence.
- Performs NewStaffTraining,Orientationand Coaching.
- Flexibility to cover a shift different from the scheduled shift.
- Performs other related duties as requested by the Director or management team.
Qualifications - Mustpossessat least aLevel2 –Early ChildhoodEducator Certificate.
- Musthaveup-to-datePoliceClearancewithvulnerable sector.
- MusthaveavalidCPRandFirstAid Certificate.
Requirements - Must haveaflexiblescheduleand beavailableto cover shifts within the program.
- Strong Communication skills (both written and oral).
- Experience in managing a team of people is preferred.
- Knowledgeofthe Alberta Childcare Act and best practices - Attention to detail with a focus on 1 st Class mission and goals.
- Intermediate Computer skills, able to use all programs utilized by the company, i.e. Ms. word, Excel, Timesavr, HRIS system (Bamboohr), etc.
- Good organizational and time management skills are necessary to manage daily operations. Professionalism & Professional Development - Maintain confidentiality as defined by the 1 st Class Confidentiality Agreement.
- Remain current on industry news, trends and childcare-related issues by participating in career development or training opportunities and/or continuing education courses. Work conditions and physical capabilities - Physically demanding - A combination of sitting, standing, and walking - Bending, crouching, kneeling - Lifting and moving weights ranging from 20 lbs. to 35 lbs.
