HIS494H5S – Advanced Topics in the History of the Americas Course Description: An in-depth examination of historical issues. Content in any given year depends on the instructor. Visit the Departmental web site at History for further information. Class Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Sessional Dates of Appointment: July 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026. Compensation: $9,820.70 to $11,030.36 per session (subject to the collective agreement). Responsibilities: Prepare and deliver course content. Develop, administer, and mark assignments, tests, and exams. Respond to student inquiries and submit grades by the end of the session. Hold regular office hours. Supervise teaching assistants, if any. Qualifications: Ph.D. in History strongly preferred, with specialization in land and law in Canada and the United States before the twentieth century. A related Ph.D.



with strong academic preparation in historical research methods may be considered. Demonstrated effectiveness as an instructor. Solid academic preparation in graduate coursework and publications in historical journals.
