Job ID: 20025Benefits OfferingUnionized PositionHealth & Dental BenefitsEmployee Assistance ProgramRoom for advancement providedCompensationSalary: $45.73Position SummaryReporting to the Equipment Manager/Shop Foreman, the Mechanic performs duties and tasks related to the preventative and corrective maintenance of specialized railway construction equipment and other related construction equipment and vehicles. Working hours during the probation period will be straight day shift once the probation period ends the working hours will change based on business needs these positions are not for day shift only.Primary/Essential Responsibilities and DutiesPerform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with work equipment (mechanical, electrical and hydraulic)Work from blueprints, service manuals and schematic drawingsConduct inspections and tests, repair or replace parts with limited resources in remote locations outdoors in all types of weather conditionsEvaluate parts for reuse, repair or replacementUse of cutting torches and welder to perform various fabrication tasks, comfortable using both stick and mig welding applicationsUse various hand and power hand toolsOperates equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignmentsDiagnose equipment problems and take corrective action in order to minimize the impact on crew productionAdapts to new methods, processes, material and equipmentPrepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets, etc.Follows prescribed safety procedures including the use of safety clothing and equipmentEnsures cleanliness and organization of shop,
maintenance of shop tools and equipment, loading/unloading and storage of equipment, etc.Working on heavy duty equipment such as Excavators and BackhoesAssists other Heavy Duty Mechanics when neededRequired Skills and Qualifications2nd Term Mechanic ApprenticePrevious field service experiencePrevious rail experience, an assetOwn tools requiredDZ or higher drivers license, an assetA safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience within the labour industryThe ability to follow instructions, rules and regulations is essentialWritten and verbal communications skillsAbility to work as a valuable member of a teamProblem solving skillsHydraulic & Electrical trouble shooting and repair backgroundFluent on reading hydraulic and electrical schematicsKnowledge of Hydraulic & Electrical components and systemsPhysical Requirements and Working ConditionsWorks both outdoors at construction sites and in the shopFrequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends,
