Salary: CAD $32.84 - $44.96 / hour
Location: Surrey, B.C.
Job Summary: We are hiring a Casual Licensed Practical Nurse to join staff at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care & Surgery Centre.
Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document practical nursing care for patients undergoing oscopy, minor surgical procedures, wound care, and other outpatient procedures/consultations during the pre‑, intra‑, and post‑procedure/consultation periods.
Assist with admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and perform intra‑procedure/consultation duties for patients undergoing oscopy in accordance with established standards and protocols.
Perform practical nursing duties during the pre‑, intra‑, and post‑procedure/consultation periods.
Observe and monitor patients’ conditions during procedures/consultations to ensure safety and comfort; provide patient condition information and feedback to supervisors and/or physicians.
Document observations into patients’ records, including treatment and other patient care information.
Participate in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings, and committees as assigned.
Assist with orientation of recent staff, students, and other team members by demonstrating work procedures and general department procedures.
Perform related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages,
and assisting in maintaining standardized records.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
One (1) year of recent relevant clinical experience in minor surgical procedures or other outpatient procedures, and completion of relevant coursework and/or certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Current basic cardiac life support certification.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and interprofessional team members verbally and in writing.
Ability to promote person‑centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/caregivers.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.
Ability to use factual information, prior learning, and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research‑based evidence and evidence‑informed practice.
Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
