Laboratory Assistant float
Responsibilities
Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values.
Conduct other patient tests, including ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
Sort and steer specimens, ensuring they are ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory.
Enter data, patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions accurately.
Maintain confidentiality and contribute to meeting departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators.
Provide customer service to create the best possible patient experience, displaying empathy, care and kindness.
Qualifications
Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy.
Customer-focused with a genuine care for patient health.
Demonstrated skill in phlebotomy, managing anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner.
Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment.
Extremely detail-oriented.
Proficiency in English, both written and verbal,
sufficient to communicate instructions clearly to patients.
MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended.
Working Conditions
Medical laboratory environment.
May require lifting a maximum of 30 pounds.
Repetitive movements with frequent computer use.
May require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.
Schedule & Location
Shift: Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
Work Style: On Site
Location: Midland, Bracebridge, Huntsville, Parry Sound, Gravenhurst & surrounding areas.
