As a Recreation Assistant with VCH you will:

Work in a team based workplace to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist.

Support your team by:

organizing and overseeing patients/clients/residents on outings

coordinating the portering of patients/clients/residents to and from the activity

demonstrating techniques of recreation activities

carrying out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities to enable patients/clients/residents to maintain maximum potential for independence

providing functional direction to volunteers

evaluating and reporting relevant observations of patients/clients/residents progress/participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team

organizing furnishings and equipment for designated activities

and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies

May operate a bus with a passenger seating capacity of up to 25 passengers (including the driver) to transport patients/clients/residents to and from community participation activities as required by site/program.

ABOUT SECHELT, BC

Sechelt is located on the traditional territories of the shíshálh (Sechelt) Nation and is approximately 50 km northwest of Vancouver. It is accessible from the mainland by a 40‑minute ferry trip between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale, followed by a 25‑minute drive along Highway 101,



also known as the Sunshine Coast Highway. Qualifications
Education & Experience

Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to teach.

Ability to organize work.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Ability to operate related equipment.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

The hours of work, including days off and work area, may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.



Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly‑funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering any missing vaccines and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
