We are currently looking for a Contract Legal Assistant or Junior Law Clerk to assist with a short-term project involving legal research, document review, discovery organization, file summaries, and project record review.
This is a great opportunity for a legal assistant, junior law clerk, law clerk student, legal studies graduate, or someone starting out in the legal field who is highly organized and detail-focused.
Length: Approximately 4 to 5 weeks
Schedule: Part-time or temporary full-time, depending on availability
Location: Burlington/Oakville area, with some flexibility depending on the candidate
Start Date: As soon as possible
Pay: $25.00 CA to $35.00 per hour
Role Overview
The successful candidate will work with our internal team to review and organize historical project documents, emails, correspondence, notes, contracts, schedules, invoices, and related information.
The role will include reviewing discovery-related documents, organizing files by issue and timeline, conducting legal research on statutes and case law, and preparing clear summaries, timelines, memoranda, draft correspondence, and briefing notes.
Responsibilities
Reviewing and organizing project-related documents, emails, correspondence, notes, contracts, schedules, invoices, and records.
Reviewing discovery documents and identifying relevant issues, dates, communications, and supporting records.
Creating timelines, chronologies, issue summaries, document indexes, spreadsheets,
and tracking reports.
Conducting legal research on relevant statutes, regulations, case law, and legal principles, as directed.
Drafting research summaries, memoranda, briefing notes, internal reports, and correspondence.
Identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or missing documents within the project records.
Maintaining strict confidentiality with all company, client, project, and legal information.
Communicating questions, findings, and missing information clearly to the team.
Skills and Qualifications
Education or experience as a Legal Assistant, Law Clerk, Legal Administrative Assistant, legal studies student, or similar.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to review large volumes of information and summarize key points clearly.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe/PDF documents, and online legal research tools.
Ability to work independently while following direction.
Comfort working with confidential and sensitive information.
Assets, But Not Required
Experience with litigation support, arbitration files, discovery review, or document production.
Experience preparing chronologies, issue summaries, document briefs, or case summaries.
Construction, custom home building, project coordination, or contract administration knowledge.
This position does not involve providing legal advice. The role is focused on legal research support, document review, discovery organization, drafting support, summaries, timelines, memoranda, and administrative file preparation under direction.
