Position Title: Personal Support Worker (PSW) Student Placement

Placement Type: In Person

Location: 3333 Finch Ave East

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 8:30am – 3:00pm

Students Needed: 3

Reports to: Living Well Manager & Day Program Team Leads

Start date: ASAP (As soon as possible)

Position Summary
The PSW student will assist in providing support to seniors in a community-based Adult Day Program. Duties include helping with program activities, offering personal care assistance, monitoring clients’ well-being, and supporting the safe and inclusive delivery of programs.

Responsibilities

Assist clients during mealtimes, including light preparation, serving lunch, and monitoring for safety

Provide personal care support, including toileting

Assist with safe transferring and positioning of clients

Escort and support clients using mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, or canes

Help with the implementation of daily programs, including games, recreational activities, crafts, and chair exercises

Foster a welcoming and engaging environment for clients

Adhere to the organization’s safety policies and procedures, including compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and internal policies on Patient & Client Safety and Health and Safety

Skills & Qualifications

To be eligible for a student placement, you must be enrolled in an approved Personal Support Worker (PSW) program and be in good academic standing.

Strong organizational and time management skills

Effective verbal and written communication

Ability to exercise good professional judgment





Compassion, patience, and respect for seniors and diverse needs

Willingness to learn and adapt to changing client needs

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Working Environment

Sitting in front of the computer terminal for long periods of time

May have frequent work interruptionsExtended hours up to 4:00 p.m. may be available if required for placement completion

Orientation & Training

Volunteer Services will provide an orientation covering organizational policies and procedures, including COVID-19 safety measures.

Completion of IPAC Mandatory Training is required for all onsite positions.

Organizational training will be provided for all current volunteers.

Position-specific training and orientation will be conducted by the direct supervisor.

Supervision & Evaluation

Supervision and support will be provided by the Living Well Manager and Day Program Team Leads.

Please note, supervision is not conducted by a Registered Nurse (RN).

Other Requirements

Vulnerable Service Sector Check screening is mandatory.

Must be 18 years or older .

The placement does not include:

Administration or reminding of medications

Bathing or showering assistance

Hair or nail care services
