Position Title: Early Childhood Educator

Reporting to : Education Director

Status : Full-time

Term: September 2024 – June 2025

Location : Neskonlith Indian Band, Salmon Arm, BC

Salary Range: $24 – $29 per hour

Job Summary:

Reporting to and under the general direction of the Education Director & Daycare Manager, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible for providing direct care and development to the children of the Neskonlith Indian Band Daycare Center.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Neskonlith Indian Band policies and procedures

Plans, develops, implements and assesses developmentally appropriate activities in conjunction with the Center’s philosophy

Provides supervision and care of children in the Day Care Center

Performs daily routines, including organizing physical activities, circle/art activities, nap time, diapering/toileting, personal hygiene, field trips, meal preparation and cleanup

Encourages problem solving and individuality through age-appropriate activities and play

Plans and implements activities that encourages listening and self expression

Plan, develop and implement activities and materials that facilitate Shuswap culture and language development

Plan, develop and provide activities and experiences that build trust, independence and self esteem

Assists in the enrolment and orientation of new children and parents

Ensures parents daily care instructions are met and followed

Assists parents in obtaining services for specialized child needs

Informs parents of plans and daily events and activities

Ensures proper procedures are followed in administering medications and first aid, including documentation and records

Updates children files, medical records, registrations and emergency cards as required





Teaches and encourages children proper hygiene and sanitation practices

Attends to children’s physical needs for diapering, toileting, nutrition and sleeping as soon as possible

Encourages and prepares health well balanced lunches, snacks and meals

Performs housekeeping duties, including disinfecting and cleaning toys, mats, gates, equipment, kitchen, floors, and games daily

Performs laundry services of sheets, blankets, etc., as required

Encourages parent involvement in events and programs

Assists in the arrival and departure of children, including communicating with the parents

Assists with fundraising activities for the Center

Answers inquiries, provides information and forms as required

Maintains the work area in a clean and skilled manner

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 education or equivalent

Minimum Early Childhood Certificate

Infant/Toddler and Special Needs Certificates, an asset

Current First Aid Certificate

Satisfactory Criminal Records check

Medical check

Food Safe Certificate

Previous experience with First Nations culture and traditions, as asset

Diplomacy, tact and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information

Reliability and dependability

Good interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a team orientated environment

Flexibility is a must to adapt to changing work priorities
