Job Summary Under the direction of the Chair, Architecture, Construction & Civil, the Professor will teach courses in the General Carpentry Apprenticeship program within the Algonquin Center for Construction Excellence. The position is part‑time, with a scheduled weekly workload of 0 hours and a contract of 2 months.
Responsibilities Design, revise, and update courses – consulting with program and course administrators, faculty, advisory committees, employers and students; defining and validating learning outcomes; specifying learning approaches and necessary resources; incorporating educational technologies; reviewing and revising curriculum; participating in professional development during non‑teaching periods.
Teach assigned courses – deliver regularly scheduled instruction in Fall, Winter or Summer terms; ensure student awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques; provide tutoring and academic advising; create a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources,
including educational technologies; evaluate student progress and overall assessment of student work; develop and create a conducive learning setting for all students.
Provide academic leadership – participate in curriculum and departmental/faculty meetings; liaise with community members, engage in program, department, school or faculty, and college promotion; stay current with emerging trends and practices in teaching and learning; model the College values – Caring, Learning, Integrity, Respect.
Qualifications 403A Red Seal General Carpenter Certificate of Qualification.
Minimum five (5) years in the field of General Carpentry.
Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience or equivalent, preferably in a postsecondary setting.
Industry experience in Commercial Estimating, Commercial Form Work Plans, Specifications and Codes is considered an asset.
