ABOUT THE ROLE
Join our Merritt Community Inclusion team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of adults with diverse abilities. As a Community Support Worker, you'll help individuals build confidence, develop skills, and connect with their community in positive, lasting ways.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Support individuals in daily activities that promote independence and well-being

Plan and facilitate recreational, social, and skill‑building opportunities

Encourage healthy routines such as food prep and personal care

Provide mobility and transportation support

Collaborate with caregivers and professionals to meet individual goals

Maintain safety standards and respond to risks or emergencies

Administer medications as needed

Keep accurate, timely documentation

WHAT YOU BRING

A Community or School Support Worker Certificate (a Diploma is a bonus!)

At least 1 year of hands‑on experience supporting individuals with cognitive, physical, or diverse abilities—especially those with complex needs

Or a solid combination of education, training, and experience that shows you’re ready to make a difference

YOUR UNIQUE QUALITIES

Ability to plan inclusive, engaging activities





Skills in building life skills and promoting independence

Comfortable providing personal care

Maintains clean, safe, and welcoming spaces

Responds calmly to challenging behaviours and crises

Works well independently and with a team

Strong problem‑solving and communication skills

Maintains boundaries and confidentiality

Collaborates effectively with others

Advocates for inclusion and individual rights

OTHER MUSTS

Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record

Physical ability to support clients using wheelchairs, walkers, and assist with lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling, bending, and safely helping clients in and out of vehicles (full on‑the‑job training provided)

Completion of required training—free for successful candidates! Certifications like CPR‑C, Mandt, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, Anti‑Bullying & Harassment, and CLBC Privacy are a plus

Consent to Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks

Union membership required, with a 1.85% dues deduction

PROGRAM DETAILS

Program: Community Inclusion

Location: Merritt, BC

Status: Full‑Time

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Schedule: Mon‑Fri, daytime schedule

Reports To: Program Coordinator, Community Living Merritt

Compensation: $25.95 - $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)
