Job Summary
This position involves skilled technical work in the field of Orthotics, under the direction of a certified Orthotist. It includes the fabrication of orthoses, filing prescriptions for specific orthopedic requirements, and manufacturing assistive devices such as orthotics, orthopedic footwear, and adapted equipment to promote clients’ independence and quality of life.

Job Demands

Occasionally lifts materials weighing between 25 and 50 lbs and regularly works with plaster casts that can be quite heavy.

Constantly standing while using hand tools that require accurate control, steadiness, and movement to fabricate devices, mold, and shape objects.

Regularly uses gross and fine motor skills to lift and assemble wheelchair components.

Visual concentration required when operating machinery such as a band saw,



ensuring proper measurements and alignment of all devices.

Repetition requiring alertness during tasks like sewing with an industrial sewing machine or grinding materials.

Frequent use of knives, requiring concentration to avoid injury.

Works with students or volunteers observing fabrication machinery, and therefore attention is critical.

Job Qualifications

Successful completion of formal training in Prosthetics and Orthotics from a recognized Prosthetics and Orthotics Technical College Program.

Registered Technician status with Orthotics & Prosthetics Canada.

Minimum of two years of experience within the last four years in a Prosthetics and Orthotics facility.

Demonstrated solid technical and communication skills, experience in plasterwork, metal bending, thermoplastic formulation, and laminating of upper and lower extremity prosthetics.

A satisfactory record of work performance.
