Job Title: Machine Operator 1

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Operations

Reports to: Assistant Manager, Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent

General Description / Purpose: Machine Operator 1 (MO1) is a field‑based position responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing company railway maintenance and inspection equipment, including MOW equipment and on‑track vehicles. The role may involve operating different equipment platforms depending on business needs.

Essential Job Functions:

Safety Focused

Lead job briefings during operations and maintenance shifts.

Consistently follow safe work processes and procedures.

Understand and explain on‑track safety requirements.

Locate emergency equipment and demonstrate correct operation.

Machine Operations and Technical Knowledge

Conduct machine inspections, identify problems, and communicate conditions to operators or supervisors.

Record and report parts used and floor stock to supervisor.

Perform maintenance and repairs per schedules and policies.

Describe gauge and HMI functions as they relate to machine operation.

Document and complete daily field reporting, expense reporting, field lodging, and other administrative reports.

Experience:

Internal: 3+ months with Loram equipment or equivalent in a 24/7 environment; excavator experience required for some assignments.

External: 2+ years with technical skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic,



and machine operations; robust verbal and written communication.

1+ year heavy equipment operator experience (Backhoe, Excavator, or alike).

Basic maintenance of heavy or construction equipment, administrative computer skills, and familiarity with data systems.

1 year computer or technology background and working knowledge of MS Windows.

Commercial driver’s license or eligibility to obtain a Class B.

Preferred radiation experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Railroad certifications, CPR/First Aid, valid driver’s license.

Pre‑Employment Requirements:

Completion of a pre‑employment physical exam and role‑specific assessments.

Background check per eVerifile/eRailSafe requirements.

Maintain a valid driver’s license and annual MVR check.

Pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol test.

Working Conditions:

100% travel, including international, across all transportation methods.

High cognitive and analytical demands.

Physical requirements: standing, sitting, walking, reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, hearing, tasting, smelling, visual acuity, and tolerance of variable and extreme physical conditions.

Compensation: Starting pay range is $24.00 – $25.00 per hour. Additional compensation may include annual bonuses and paid time off.
