Wage Range: $ - $ per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance to collective agreement requirements)
Hours: Up to Hours per Week
Shifts: Various Shifts; 8 and 10 Hours
Status: Permanent Part Time

Unit Overview The Cardiovascular Investigations Unit (Cath Lab) is a state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization facility in the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC) at the Toronto General Hospital. The Cath Lab uses innovative equipment and digital technology serving patients on a regional, national, and international level performing 7,000 procedures a year. The Cath Lab is home to world-renowned clinicians who use minimally invasive techniques and innovative procedures to treat a wide range of patients with complex heart disease. Procedures performed in the Cath Lab include:
Coronary Angiogram and Angioplasty
Complex Adult Congenital Interventions
Structural Heart (percutaneous valve replacement, ASD Closure, MitraClip)
Complex, High-Risk and Indicated PCI with or without Mechanical Circulatory support
Cardiac Biopsy
Electrophysiology studies, 3D Mapping, and Ablations
Pacemaker and Defibrillator implantation

Role Details As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiovascular Investigations Unit (Cath Lab)...
You will:
Be primarily responsible for pre and post procedural care, intra procedural care,



assisting interventional cardiologists and the clinical care team with cardiac medical procedures in a sterile environment, and monitor patient hemodynamics during procedures. The RN practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. Nursing staff may also support research projects and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical care and operations.
Work with:
A diverse clinical care team including: Interventional Cardiologists, Medical Radiation Technologists, Medical Fellows, Echo Technicians, and Anesthesia to deliver high-quality and patient-centered care. The RN reports to the Nurse Manager of the Cath Lab. As an RN in the Cath Lab, you will maintain a positive and calming working relationship with team members, promote a healthy work environment and encourage collaboration for excellence in patient care.
Supported through:
Comprehensive 8-week in-unit orientation for each nursing role in the Cath Lab. In-house ACLS training will be offered during your orientation (if not already certified). RNs are supported with additional educational opportunities to advance interventional cardiology skills such as mechanical circulatory support (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Impella), calcium management devices (Rotational Atherectomy, Intravascular Lithotripsy, Laser Atherectomy), interventional ancillary equipment (IVUS, OCT, FFR). Nurses may later act as a preceptor to support development of other staff and learners.

Qualifications Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Minimum two (2) years of Cardiology experience including ECG interpretation and use of cardiac meds, and/or critical care experience, and/or experience working in critical assessment and resuscitation
Coronary Care 1 & 2 certification
Demonstrated evidence of ongoing education in cardiac nursing
Excellent interpersonal and decision making, organizational and time management skills
Encompasses the engagement and spirit of teamwork
Must be able to wear lead apron for duration of shift
All positions are required to do On-Call shifts as scheduled. RNs must be able to arrive to the hospital within 45 minutes of pager activation when on call.
Preferred Completion of accredited Bachelor of Nursing Program
Previous Cath Lab experience
Completion of a Critical Care Course
