Key Responsibilities Donor screening : assess clinical suitability of donors and complete medical and social history in consultation with families.
Telephone consent approach : engage families by phone to explain the donation process and secure consent.
Case coordination : provide tissues to tissue banks, coordinate body transfer, negotiate operating room time and location, and coordinate hospital services.
Support donor families and act as Team Lead when appointed.
Quality assurance and compliance with occupational health and safety and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Respond to calls from referring hospitals, conduct preliminary assessments, and identify all relevant donation options.
Provide expert consultation on tissue donation, including assessment of tissue suitability.
Ensure timely completion of medical/social history assessments at the time of donation or on a pre‑arranged date.
Approach substitute decision makers for consent and re‑approach as needed.
Learn and apply new techniques and strategies for approach.
Participate in ongoing education and awareness activities.
Liaise continuously with on‑site personnel to complete risk assessment, screening, testing, and evaluation of individual tissue suitability after consent.
Work with the coroner’s office to facilitate tissue donation and coordinate with the Regional Supervising Coroner.




Obtain temporary surgical privileges for tissue recovery personnel and ensure credentialing policies are followed.
Coordinate recovery timing, operating room availability, and arrival of tissue recovery teams.
Communicate donor information to tissue recovery staff and tissue banks.
Ensure hospital departments are contacted after tissue recovery to arrange transport of the body to the funeral home.
Communicate with family members and inform them when donation opportunities cannot proceed despite a signed consent.
Manage shift duties: prioritize and assign work, oversee new employee preceptorship, distribute accurate shift reports, and monitor case closure.
Track active organ cases and their status relative to tissue offering.
Use clinical judgment to answer tissue coordinator questions before involving medical oversight or consulting physicians.
Ensure consistency with team lead direction when not in the lead role.
Maintain timely and accurate data entry into electronic systems and paper charts, document and report variances, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Qualifications University degree or college diploma in health sciences, biological sciences, or a recognized equivalent major.
Certification in eye or tissue banking (Certified Eye Bank Technician or Certified Tissue Banking Specialist), blood banking, Registered Practical Nurse, or paramedic is an asset.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in organ and tissue donation, health sciences, or health care workplace,



including tissue recovery and processing.
Experience working with patients and families in crisis situations is preferred.
Ability to work 12‑hour shifts in a 24/7 environment, including days, nights, mid‑day, weekends, and statutory holidays.
All day shifts require presence at the office.
In‑depth knowledge of biological and health sciences and quality assurance standards.
Ability to maintain and protect patient confidentiality with discretion and sound judgment.
Demonstrated time‑management skills and flexibility to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, results‑oriented environment.
Motivated self‑starter capable of working independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
Superior written and oral communication skills.
Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong computer skills.
Location & Compensation Worksite: 483 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario.
Schedule: Combination of weekday and weekend 12‑hour shifts.
Employment Type: Temporary Part‑time (0.75FTE).
Rate of Pay: $34.13 to $42.65 per hour.
